Subject: Geforce FX 5500:Good choice for Halo PC?

I have a a problem in Halo PC.The MC,the grunts and the elites, and everyone in multiplayer(iNCLUDING ME)are grey.I have looked on bestbuy.com to see if there are any video cards that are cheap, and work well(as in having some color in the characters).I have come upon a Geforce FX 5500,which is $70,very cheap for best buy.I have read the Halo PC readme file and it said the video cards need to be DirectX 9.0 comapatible. This is a DX 9.0 compatible video card. But my question is:is this a good video card? Will it make the game a bit colorful and make it look good at the same time?Do you reccomend this or not?

But I said CHEAP cards not expensive ones.I have looked at the ATI cards and they are very expensive. The least expensive 1 is at least $100!When Nvidia's have cheap cards.

the most inexpensive cards probably won't be that good, it's hard to find a very good graphics card for <$100, you have to spend over $100 for a good graphics card, over $200-$250 for outstanding cards. you're better off to save up

My Geforce FX 5200 Does juuuust fine. It's my CPU that can't take the heat. If you want a cheap option the 5200 has served me well for quite some time.

However you should get something newer (the whole FX series is really great)

yeah, im currently in the process of saving up for a GeForce FX5500 as well. i say its a decent card, IMO. although people are recommending the 6600GT's and the 7900GTX's, FX5500 is a decent card, for tight budget customers. =)

If you just play Halo then a FX5500 is fine. But if you ever wan't to play anything else (Doom 3, COD 2, Quake 4, FEAR), you wan't atleast a 6600gt.

yes, what fatal said is right. you have two options: get a FX5500, which is decent enough for halo, but ONLY for halo, but its at a good cheap price. or you can get a 6600GT which is better than a FX5500, and can work on other games besides halo, but its more expensive.

UGH, this is giving me a headache, just get BOTH!!! lmao, just kidding, trigger. get either a FX5500 or a 6600GT, and theyll both be suitable for halo. or hell, if youre high on cash, get a 7900GTX.

i love my 6600gt! I can play Halo highest settings and Call of Duty2 on the extra settings(which is the highest), I also have doom3 which looks awsome. I can also play Battlefield2 with good graphics.

this card is a lot better than my Geforce4 mx 440.

the GeForce4 MX440 is a bad card. my friend has one in his computer, and his Call of Duty looks ugly with that card. eh, at least now you have a 6600GT i8pptu. =)

you get what you pay for. If you spend less than $150 dont expect to get any preformance at all. I'd suggest the nvidia 6600GT.

ok my graphics card is a geforce 6200 which i got of a computer site for $60 =D and i will say that its perfect for halo but an ATI radion 9800 would be awsome. I would suggestr a geforce if you want a good one that gets the job done but a ATI makes halo look at its fullest but the prices are a little high but umm yea i would go for a ATI trust me they are the best choice.

I really don't need to play any of those games.I have Quake 4 and CoD2 for the 360.And I have the demo of Doom 3 for xbox 1,and FEAR is comin out for 360.I'm not much of a PC gamer,I just really wanted Halo. Before this,I thought about getting an Alienware, but those have really expensive prices.

Stupid question, but have you checked your computer has an AGP slot? As it has integrated graphics, it may not have an AGP slot.

Check before you buy.

If you were thinking of getting an alienware, you could build something equal to the spec you were looking at for about half the price.

Ignore what people say, building your own PC is dead easy, the hardest part is choosing the bits, and you can get plenty of help with that online (here for example).

Trust me, its really really easy to build a PC. Even I can do it.

funny i run Quake 4 with a FX5500, with max settings, and at 800 x 600 with about 25-30 FPS.
Holy crap, dude. Quake 4, max settings, 800 x 600, at 25-30 fps on a FX 5500? That's insane, you probably overclocked it to hell.

The GeForce FX 5500 is a high step above integrated chips, but I recommend you get something higher. I play on a GeForce 6600 AGP (need to upgrade to PCI-E) and I can play Halo PC beautifully at a high frame rate with max settings.

By the way, Trigger, if you're wondering why I haven't been playing on Xbox Live, it's because I've been grounded from gaming this week, if you haven't read my other thread already. (I can play by Friday.)

I am not very good with PC's,ask spartan kim,he'll tell u that he spent about 45 minutes on xbox live lecturing me about computers.Yeah,I'm that dumb.I also don't know what a AGP or PCI slot is,My grandparents have an AGP graphics card and a AGP slot on their Compaq, but I only know that because it is on the CPU,and the video card came integrated with the PC.But could any1 please tell me what a AGP slot/card and a PCI slot/card is.Could anyone also tell me where a slot like that is found?

Slots on the motherboard have advanced over the years. PCI is the slowest, but is the most common slot on a motherboard. You will probably have 2 or 3 if not more. They are white, and have one long hole, and one short hole in them. AGP slots are only for graphics cards, and are faster than PCI slots. They are usually brown. PCI Express slots are relativlely new, and are usually blue. They are the fastest but unless you recently bought a computer, or built your own, you probably won't have one. If you are unsure, you will always have a PCI slot. The 5500 will run halo with close to max settings at 800x600 pretty well. If you do have an AGP or PCIexpress slot, the 6600GT can be bought for around $100 and is far far better than a 5500.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

It sounds to me like you have a PCI slot. If so, then the FX5500 is the best you can get.

Do the slots on your motherboard look like this with one offset that is a different color?

If so, then you have an AGP motherboard. If not, then you have a PCI only motherboard.

If that is the case, then you should get the 5500.
