I am a senior in High School, and for my senior thesis on video game programming, I need to interview someone who is currently working in the game design field. I have searched through the pages trying to find a way to get in touch with someone in Bungie, but all the contact info seems to only be about the website, unless I use snail mail. So, I decided to post this here in hopes that one of the wiser members of the 7th Column might have connections, or that one of the great Bungie gods themselves would read this and take pity on a poor child in a small town trying to achieve his dreams of getting a game design job, so he can one day join Bungie and its world domination. So please, help me out, the 7 will bless you.

Well, I got this message from stosh after I explained my situation to him:
"I know you can interview someone at bungie if you wish...But I'm not so sure about the job shadowing thing. I'm not the person you should be talking to anyway. Try asking shishka, he's a contract worker at bungie now. He may be able to set you up some connections. "

So of course I messaged Shishka, and got this. Not really sure what he meant.
"I have place to discuss this situation with you. You should try to message SketchFactor, Frankie, or e-mail the webmaster. "

I've messaged Franky, and SketchFactor, waiting for a reply now. Yes, I am just posting this hoping to keep my thread alive long enough to get noticed by one of the Bungie gods.

Thank you captain obvious! However, I am not a bonafide n00b, and know the chaos and ridicule often resulting from mailing the Webmaster. It is my last resort, which means I'll probably be doing it by Wednesday. I'm still hoping someone will actually notice this, someone from Bungie, or just respond to my messages.

OK, I've messages or emailed everyone I was refered to, no reply. Any other suggestions? This really is an important project, but I don't want to have to resort to snail mail.

SOMEONE PLEASE TAKE NOTICE!

I have sent multiple messages and emails to everyone I was refered to, but to no avail. I'm sure someone with "power" is reading this, and if so, heres the latest letter I sent.

I have previously contacted you regarding this matter, but I understand how busy you are, so I will refresh your memory. I am a senior attending Eastern Sierra Academy, a small high school in the mountains of California, which, despite having only twenty-two students, was ranked the top high school in California by Newsweek, and the number seven school in the country. We are able to get such excellent rankings by maintaining a rigorous and challenging curriculum, which pushes students and focuses on college preparation. This thorough preparation has allowed our alumni to flourish in such colleges as Williams, UC Davis, UC Berkeley, CalBaptist, Biola, Cal Poly, and many others. I myself am applying, and expect to be accepted into Harvard, Amherst, and Grinnell. I have also been honored with the University of California’s Eligibility in Local Context program, which guarantees my admission into a UC.
As part of the aforementioned rigorous curriculum, all students are required to complete a senior thesis research paper to be able to graduate. This subject of the paper is a career of the students choosing, and as part of the research, students must interview someone currently working in their career of interest. Students must also conduct a job shadow of the person, to learn first-hand what is necessary to be successful in their chosen career. Meeting this requirement will be quite a challenge for me; doing my paper on video game design necessitates my finding someone currently working as a game designer to interview and job shadow, but as I have already said, I live far from any town of significant size, let alone an active game studio. I am sure you see my dilemma. However, the interview can be conducted either by phone or email, and with the completion of Halo 2, I was hoping somebody from Bungie would be kind enough to take a small amount of time out of their busy schedule to answer some of my questions. Also, I will be in Seattle for a week in late November, and would be eternally grateful if there would be some way for me to conduct my job shadow at Bungie Studios during that time. I understand that this may be impossible, but would be appreciative of any level of assistance you could give me.

Yours in Thanks,
Ian Bone-Rundle

Unfortunately, I think that means "Sorry, we can't help you."

I don't mean to be a pest, but this is a vital thing to me. I will not graduate from high school unless I do this interview and job shadow. I really am not asking much, a half hour to ask someone questions, and then just look at what everyone does all day. If you can not help me, could you provide me with contact information of someone who may be able to? Or, at the very least, give me an actual reply, rather then leaving me holding on to hope until it is too late for me to do anything.

Thank you, I really do appreciate this kind of constructive criticism. Your response does not feel belittling or patronizing, but genuinely useful. I do understand the good people at Bungie have a lot to do, but I am constantly reading articles about how various celebrities (Linkin Park, and many others) get private LAN parties set up at Bungie, and anytime a magazine comes for a story, all regular work stops, and massive accomadations are made. Now, I am very well aware of the fact that I am not Linkin Park or Official Xbox Magazine, and have no right to expect the same kind of treatment. However, I am not Bungie to go to the same amount of trouble. I would be perfectly satisfied tagging on to some existing tour session, in order to be less trouble.

It may seem I am being overly ambitious by approaching Bungie over some other studio, after all, I do live in California, the cornacopia of the gaming industry! But, I live several hours from the nearest KMart, let alone the nearest game studio. I am going to be in Seattle for Thanksgiving though, making Bungie the most practical option. Although, now that I consider it, it may work better to do this at another of the Microsoft Game Studios located in Redmond.

And don't think I sit at my computer, hoping for any word from Bungie. I am pursueing other avenues, but still think I deserve the minimal courtesy of a reply to my various correspondance to Bungie, even if it is just a "No, it is impossible to grant your request because...."
