I watched Stargate Atlantis, (I know, nerddd) and the storyline includes an ancient race of humans in which we derive from, whome were far more advanced than us, afterwards they used ascension (please forgive spelling) to loose physical form and become energy itself, prehaps these 'forerunners', could be similar? because we don't know where they are

Possibleh. But i doubt it.

I have a rendezvous with death. At some disputed barricade.

Ascension, as in the map????

But yeah, Bungie has stated several times that it draws its story lines from a wealth of Sci-Fi. Possibly including Stargate: Atlantis.

humans and forerunners are the same species (I believe, as do many others), but no, they did not achieve some sort of hieghtend consciousness and transmutate to pure energy. They were wiped out by the Halos, as was every other sentient lifeform with sufficient biomass within range of the Halos.

Interesting proposition though.

yeh im just wondering if there is a connection, prehaps they did just use ascension, which is maybe why that map is called that, its description relates to the halo and we have no idea of what its use is

this from http://halosm.bungie.org/story/forerunner.html

The Forerunner are shrouded in mystery. Although their cyclopean architecture still remains, they have long been absent from their own creations. What little we know of them is explained vicariously through their machinery and their automatons. Clearly, they were technologically superior to both Humanity and the Covenant. Their empire spanned at least this galaxy, encompassing both Einsteinian reality and Slipspace. They are not the Covenant's gods, but are revered as god-like, having supposedly found the path to salvation.

At one point in the Forerunner's history, they encountered the Flood. They fought, and retreated. When they had at last exhausted every tactical option, the Halo network was activated; as far as 343 Guilty Spark's data shows they, and all other sentient life in the galaxy, were all killed in the process. For whatever reason, they had felt it was necessary to contain and study the Flood, rather than destroy them outright. Their allowance of the Flood's perpetuation and storage in stasis could be considered an inexcusable lack of foresight for such an advanced civilization, though without knowing their precise reasoning, the passing of judgement is problematic.

Halo CE......(sigh) the good ol' days......

“Go, stranger, and to Lacedaemon tell that here, obeying her behests, we fell.”

what doesnt make sense is if the forerunner could make a galaxy spanning empire why not slipspace to another galaxy after turning on the halos......

If they realized Halo would kill them all why would they stay? WHy wouldnt they just acess their Slipspace stuff and get out. It could take you somwhere bad but what could be much worse than death? MAybe their still out there and 343 Guilty Spark was programmed only to say so or some Forerunners stayed behind.

LOl some1 said that already... O well.

SG-1 is about 10 times better. If you haven't seen it I suggest you do.

theyd help humans

the reason they never slipspaced out was because the flood was spreading without bounds. if they had left they would just be running away from problems, but itll always catch up. the flood was something you either fix, or die tryin cuz there be no escape. after exhausting every option, they killed off all the life in the galaxy, blah , blah, etc. (sorry, but ive explainin this a thousand times 2day!)

in a nutshell, its either face your destiny or perish. in the case of the forerunners, it was both.....how ironic

what?!?!?! okay first of all if they would have left the galaxy after firing off the halos you make it sound as if the flood would follow, now if they stayed and died the flood still didnt leave so how would they be running from their problems, whether they lived or died doesnt descern wheter or not the flood survive

But wait if the forunners were wiped out then shudent all the flood be wiped out like i meen they were right on the halo's wernt they. Isint it posible that not only some flood servived that some Forrunners servied too? like y would the All So powerful Forunners want too wipe ther own race out? Like wernt they trying to stay alive by killing the flood so y just give up and kill your self. So it just makes sence that ether they left to another galixy or assended like in Star-Gate Atlantis.(Excuse my crap spelling)

because cowards taste death many times, but the honarable taste death but once.

But really what he is saying is that the forerunners could slipspace away and activate the halo's while out of their distance except for one problem, halos kill the flood food not the flood so the flood would just follow the forerunners and continue killing other civilizations on the way so it was better to kill themselves.

Its the floods nature to hunt life and they are going to conviently take the life of the closest beings and they arent really smart enough to know that the forerunners are going to activate the rings, gravemind is probably the only flood who knows what the rings do, in other words they dont know what the hell is going on.

well i guess there are going to need to be alot of loose ends tied up in this game, story wise, kinda like episode 3, maybe thats why that movie sucked....... :P

I wonder when they found the time to build the Halo rings...you know, with the Flood War going on and what not. I mean, who would build the equivalant to a self-destruct button in space? I know I wouldn't.
