I see why you want this, but I'm going to be honest here.

That is an awful idea.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Facebook is a popular social networking site which brings people together.

Bungie.net is a site which bring s Bungie fans together.

While we are not a social networking site, we accomplish a similar goal just on a smaller scale.

I see nothing wrong with using features from a popular site into Bungie.net that help to enhance user experience.

  • 03.12.2012 4:08 PM PDT

Maybe not individual posts... But I like the idea of liking threads. Also, it would be nice to have notifications.

I would not like this as I do not use such networks, and while a merging of features would bring visitors here, it would likewise displace some conversations and reference there.

Additionally, I do not like the idea of supporting certain topics over others outside of replies. There is little thought process behind simply clicking a button, and it also adds a layer of anonymity that mitigates a users responsibility for promoting a topic, not to mention numerous popularity fallacies.

When a user supports a discussion with a reply, they must reveal themselves and post on a subject matter, often exposing the validity of their opinion towards the topic. Since the user is require to post openly, they will think more on the discussion. If a user merely has to click a button to promote a topic, it makes no difference whether or not they have even read it.

It would not eliminate it, merely give it a different form, which as I mentioned, is indistinguishable from legitimate support.

Yes, but it would have a simpler form that wouldn't interfere with finding useful answers. It's like throwing everything on the floor vs. cramming it into a drawer. In the drawer is the same mess, but it takes up less space and dosen't get in the way.

It certainly holds capacity to interfere as people from social networks would be predisposed to follow the 'like' promoted topics as opposed to the 'unliked'. Such a feature would likely hold bearing on which topics are supported, so your sock-drawer analogy should be more likened to a billboard.

Let the record show that I made my post before Acky and so any of you who usually call me a kiss-ass have no ammunition on this one.

Ha! I WIN!
All you've proved is that you're agreeing with his opinion that was already posted a while back and which he was likely to post again in this thread.

If anything that could be an arguement for butt kissing.

OT: I would personally wouldn't still be here if Bungie did something as stupid as to force Facebook integration for the viewing of Halo stats ...

I also think the idea in the OP is bad, not because of social network integration, but because of the fact that forum threads aren't something you really share with your friends. By that I mean, there's a difference between "look at my cat" and "look at my Bungie.net thread".

Because first of all, pasting those share buttons all over the forums would just look plain ugly.

Second, these forums don't need more people coming here. It's already active enough.

I almost wonder what would have happened if Facebook had Halo stats on it first.

Ya know, My Halo 3 spartan picture was bigger on the Facebook Halo 3 stat app...
Hmmmm

I think they liked me more.

I probably wouldn't share anything, and I don't foresee this feature getting much use; but other then the time it takes to set it up and the space it takes on the forum (I know, neglectable) I can't think of much that can go wrong with it.

By the way, what's better about this then just copy/pasting the URL?

I don't see anything in the original post that mentions adding a "like" feature to the forum.

Don't you know that every thread in the community forum is just a repeat of a thread a couple of months back?

This was my answer then as well.

Mind = blown

I think it would be cool if Bungie's next game had stats be able to be embedded on Facebook.

Like being able to link your Bungie.net account to your facebook account or something. I am not a facebook user but it could be interesting.

No as it would take away too much traffic unless there is just stat viewing on facebook and you have to do rest on bungie.net.
It's not like Bungie gets paid from all the traffic....

This is an example of what I warned about - say the word "Facebook" and you bring along a lot of assumptions (such as crappy UI of lots of Facebook integration plus some questionable Facebook UI itself).

Your second point, though, well... wow.

The concept of 'liking' something promotes it, which is exactly what is being proposed, additionally in a way that would promote it more externally.
Similar to how many blogs and/or news sites have icons/buttons allowing a reader to Tweet, Facebook share, or Google+1 the url of the story (in this case the thread).Hopefully this could clarify, unless you wish to argue semantics, which are largely irrelevant as the point is being properly communicated.

One is a feature to measure how many people chose to "like" something and the other is a feature to be able to share something to other websites; they are different features, and different subjects. The posts I quoted only talked about the "like" feature and didn't explain their relevance to the subject of this topic.

Sure, many different subjects can be related to each other, but unless I point out the connection and relevance to the subject, I'm not adding to discussion.

If we attract Facebook users here, the only thing that they'll do is bring their ridiculously stupid posts along with them (Not that the flood could get any less intelligent, that is). And trust me, I've used Facebook enough to know that we wouldn't want the people that use it regularly to come here.

And what about my second point? I mean, it could be more active, but like I always say, Quality > Quantity.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.
-TGP-

Yes, but if a thread is on the verge of becoming archived what will stop the OP from clicking the facebook or twitter button to get people to bump their thread back up. Maybe the share function should disappear after a couple of days.
