If everyone with a FB and/or Twitter account were to more easily link to (for example an imaginary example) "this week's blame stosh"... how would that be terrible? We all can do it, it's just a manual process currently.

Similarly and again using historical examples, imagine if a MLG player with a lot of Twitter followers were to tweet a link to a discussion in Optimatch... yes, they could be seen by some as attempting to sway or influence the discussion, but they would only be getting MORE people who cared about the topic actually DISCUSSING the topic they tweeted. Sure a potentially dangerous thing, but also a potentially GOOD thing if it helps make people aware of our community and our discussions.

Even after they're cached?

Now THAT is a serious flaw that would get me to withdraw the suggestion.

It can't be the images are huge, so the required scripting behind them is bloated and clunky?

Late Edit: I just reloaded the WSJ page with those buttons and see that they query each service to give a count of how many likes, tweets and +1's have been given to the page. I don't see those counts as being needed here. Just the icon and the ability to send the thread's URL to the appropriate service.

Have you been to the Flood?
What the bloody hell does that have to do with anything? Would you like to post something that actually has relevance to the conversation as well as flesh out your "opinion" (if it can be called that) or are you satisfied with your unnecessary and silly off-topic post about the off-topic forum?

Actually, my idea was inspired by The Flood.

Many, if not most, of the topics there are started because a member "found something cool on the Interwebz" and wants to talk about it with a community with whom they feel a connection. So The Flood is full of news items, current events, memes, videos, and discussions about other potentially shared or shareable experiences. The Flood is fueled by events on the rest of the Internet.

I thought, "Wait, why can't (or shouldn't) this community be able to get as good as we give?" The Flood gives exposure and can provide interest in content off of this site (the Schwippy Tree and "flud wuz here" posts on YouTube are proof), why can't we "use" those other networks to advertise things that these forums make (discussions)?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Why do you all hate Facebook so much?

Great point, sir. They do love to connect with Internet culture, and they share more external links than any other board, I think; but what does that have to do with Facebook?

EDIT: Great discussion in here. I'm beyond impressed.

Last time I check this is a Forum and it should stay like it is a Forum.

I am not advocating any change to the forums. None at all.

I am suggesting that topics be more easily shared with external services and non-members with no sign or alteration to the in-thread discussion. In other words, just like I could take the URL for page 1 of this topic and Tweet it manually, we simply have buttons on page 1 that would allow us to tell our social networks "I am really interested in this particular Bungie.Net discussion, drop by and see if you have anything to add to the discussion".

No display of who, how many, or even IF someone has sent +1's, Likes, or Tweets about the topic, just the potential for the followers of anyone who does click on the button to discover this site, this community and what we ALL come here for, the discussions this community has among themselves.

Fair enough, but I hope that I have described by suggestion clearly.

I just look at how a golden septagon brings people (and interest) to a topic like flies to honey and wonder what something like a Wil Wheaton tweet would do.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

Everyone is completely missing my valid point to attack the senseless posts. What is to stop people from sending out a twitter or facebook blast to bump their thread up and keep it alive? Will there be a time limit to when you can share your thread?

You mean the idea that someone (with a lot of mindless Twitter followers) could somehow leverage them as a disruptive army of zombie spammers?

I mean that someone could just get their followers and friends on bungie.net and keep their thread from being shot down the page list. It could be a problem with this, and I'm wondering if there would be a time limit that you could blast your thread to the social networks. This would force you to manually send a link when you see a funny old thread though.

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

I would never use it and I don't know anyone who would. So I would have to say no to this proposal.

If anyone has enough social power to inspire others to discuss a topic that they aren't personally interested in, that person has a career in government or sales, not in keeping topics on page one of these forums. Besides, if those "followers" are actually making a real discussion, that's exactly WHY this suggestion is being made. To expose this community, this site, these forums and our discussions to more people out there who might be interested in joining the site, community and our discussions. More interest, more participation is good, not bad.

Do you honestly think that you have to be amazing to get other users to follow you on twitter? No, you don't. I'm not talking about these people actually actively participating in the conversation, I'm talking about them just bumping the thread up and coming back to bump it if it starts being threatened.
