I don't get arguments about "abuse" of this suggestion. You can already freely copy and paste a link to wherever you want. If that is an easily abused option, adding this feature won't change that. It'll just make things easier for people who do that, regardless of whether it's done innocently or maliciously.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

Well that's because this forum generally thinks any new feature shouldn't be done because it would be abused.

You know, the same argument could be made (and actually, has been made) about the basic existence of both the forums and the group system.

Such arguments are dumb, but that never stops anyone.

So he can be a mindless Facebook drone or an equally mindless yet far more annoying anti-Facebook drone?

I'm not sure you understand what I meant as a "mindless drone".
Such people are blind to arguments against their views and provide none to support them.

If you carefully read my initial post you'll notice that I don't just talk out of my behind, but provide proof of the actual intentions of services such as Facebook, which, while perfectly known by most, are ignored. People who know about it and ignore it are what I called "sheep" and are also "mindless drones".

If you need more proof that Facebook is (almost) as bad as it gets, feel free to search around the internet: it won't be hard to find facts that prove it (you can even find publicly available data that anyone smart enough would classify as a privacy and security leak).
Maybe you could start by trying to create a new Facebook account so you have to provide your phone number to activate it. Or maybe you already gave Facebook your number because they told you (i.e., flat out lied) that it would increase your security. How cool and hip is that?

There's more, but I guess I'll just stop: if you're not convinced by now you'll never be and I don't really care enough.

What does that even mean? People keep using this phrase or ones akin to it and I still have no idea what they mean by it as it could mean a multitude of different things.

The only thing I could actually agree with is how facebook changes everything and anything at whim and never because the community asks for it....

BUT.

Since Bungie has never done that, nor do I believe they will ever so coldly ignore their community, I can only agree that actting like intergrating Facebook-ish features would only help to better this site. At with the webteam at the helm, does anyone have any doubts it will be awesome?

What?

Adding social features doesn't mean that Bungie would start adopting the same mentality as the owners of Facebook. Just because someone decides to adapt to an ever-changing online environment doesn't mean they're going to get the same ideals and manner of updating their website as those who pioneered said features.

That'd be like saying any company who wants to make a word processor like Microsoft is going to also go into the gaming industry like Microsoft did because their company is now utilizing something that was pioneered by Microsoft.

And that's just silly.

While I agree with your notion, I don't think its relevant to be honest.

I only proposed adding a few buttons to the OP in a thread in order to make it easier to share/notify others of interesting topics.

I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition..........

... NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISTION!

Sorry we are late, terrible traffic.

edit:
OT: Change what you want, but keep it looking clean and sleek, oh and make sure the threads don't take ages to load (*cough* Waypoint *cough*)

The whole point of me going here is that it's nothing like Facebook.

If it was like Facebook it would be horrible

Understood, accepted and agreed.

But.

Stopped reading there.

Bungie is a place for the men and women of their community to chillax and socialize.

making it more like Face Book would be.....not Bnetish.
You should try reading next time, this is not what the point of the OP was.

Find me someone who's actually making the verbatim suggestion that we should make it "like Facebook".

Maybe instead of Facebook, b.net could link with MySpace and/or Friendster?

J/k

On a serious note, I may have previously been against the idea, but now I don't think it to be a bad thing, provided that posters here have the option to not have b.net activity shared with Facebook (unlike Facebook apps). Two advantages:

1) It is a good PR move for Bungie, as it would boost visibility so more people know Bungie as "Bungie, a console game studio and mobile game publisher" and not "Master Chief's old home"

2) it would bring more diversity to the site so we get past the Halo 4 and girl problems threads, and maybe have more interesting discussions.

Check out my Youtube Channel!

i would personally love to see upvoting/downvoting on comments as well as in-thread image posting....but that will never happen.

"There's daggers in men's smiles." - Donalbain, Macbeth, Act II, scene iii

Just musing here.

What if users could rate up (or down) threads, and threads with higher ratings would stay higher on the list of topics? That way, important threads with a low post count will still garner recognition.

Like Facebook likes?

A pretty good idea, as long as the OP can't vote on his/her own thread, so as to prevent spamming his thread to the top.

I'd also like to see a "thanked" option for posters, like what's used on vbulletin forums and over at NotBungie - maybe tie the number of thanks posters get (for meaningful and helpful in posts on the public forums) to forum titles.

This is a video game community site.

This is not a blog and it should not get linked with any type of social network site. It'll turn the whole damn thing into one big attention whoring fest.

Next you'll be saying that Bungie needs crappy games that waste your free time, constantly spam other people with "come check out my....", and have 20 knockoff versions. (i.e. Farmville, Cityville, Dragonvale)

Can I play them while I go skiing down the slippery slopes in this thread?

this site gets enough traffic as is, it's hard for posts to get noticed and they get bumped down so quickly

By the gods, hell no. If the insufferably ignorant and mentally lacking populous of facebook and the rest of those sites you listed were to migrate to bungie.net the forum would degrade into the likes of tumblr.

I would rather crawl naked through 12 miles of broken glass and mercury then have to deal with the bull-blam!- that would ensue.

OP this thread is bad, and you should feel bad.

Sorry, OP, but many people who frequent this forum are allergic to the word Facebook. It makes them incapable of discussion ideas on the basis of merit but rather makes them compare it to even marginally related things that Facebook does.

I almost wonder what would have happened if Facebook had Halo stats on it first.

Facebook is the cancer that is killing all decent conversation. The vast majority of the population of said sites consist primarily of attention whoring wo / manchildren who have the mental and emotion worth of a squirrel high on narcotics. The reason this place is my go to forum is specifically because it is not like any other forum I have found. The user base is more mature, and less idiotic then everything you suggested bringing here.

To put it quite simply,

No.
