Subject: Would you like a button that locks your own threads?

There's no way Nate Hawbaker's favorite hero is Alan Stuart

ALAN IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN!

Use the title for most of the reference. Also, I did not add a poll because

a) Polls kill threads
b) I want an opinion, not just a number next to 'Yes' or'No.

What are your thoughts on this button that would allow you to lock your own threads if they got too derailed or flamed beyond repair?

It could potentially be of use, however, I see it being used in horrible, horrible way in The Flood.

How about a whole 10 pages of locked threads?

The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success.

The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.

As you waste your breath complaining about life, Someone out there is breathing their last. Appreciate what you have.

If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything.

I don't like the idea. It would just be annoying to see everywhere. There's a lot of 10 year olds on this site that couldn't handle that kind of power.

Of teh lolz..

I think it would be handy, however there have been suggestions like this before and its a 50/50 feeling.

Anyway, I think it'd be cool.

Leave it to the professionals (well, sort-of professionals) to handle the locking.

You could also say that it would be granted to highe-level titles, adding another incentive to good behaviour.

cars, girls & cake all day everyday

I'm not saying I'm for or against the idea, but the few communities where I've seen this feature used (one with a small, but largely very young age average) have never seen abuse of it. Just throwing that out there.

No. Why should the poster of the thread be allowed to lock their thread?

If it's merely to moderate it, I'd say that the moderators can already handle the situation themselves, that many users will misjudge when the thread deserves a lock or not (the same reason why everyone doesn't have the lock tool already), and that you can still report the thread if you think it needs to be looked over by a moderator.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

What if I ask a well thought out question in a thread and it fills up with pointless responses that the moderators don't see as spam?

Also how could this be abused?

You could also say that it would be granted to highe-level titles, adding another incentive to good behaviour.

Titles don't judge the user. Titles merely say that the user has been here this long, or that he has been relatively active, or that he hasn't been warned or banned for some time.

Even an immature and unintelligent "troll" can be active, ban free and around long enough to get any automated title. Not to mention titles are supposed to be "just for fun", and adding such a feature would dilute that.

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

I think it could be useful for a grace period if someone's posting an epic thread of multiple OPs. A limit of 2, 3, 4, or 5 minutes tops would be nice to have as an option for initial posting, just to cover the spam-filter waiting time.

Having that as its only limit then restricts abuse.

Who the hell do you think I am?

No, that would never work out well.

So many people would abuse it.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

To be frank I really don't trust the judgement or critical thought processes of a majority of the members here.

I don't want to have a conversation ended because an OP thought the thread was going off topic, or people weren't talking about what he, specifically, wanted to talk about, or any of the other myriad of issues.

Being able to lock others out of a conversation should have a longer list of criteria than simply being the creator of the thread.

"You can still report the thread if you think it needs to be looked over by a moderator." and you can also message one or multiple moderators, if you want. But if that doesn't work, it's likely you're mistakenly trying to lock a thread that deserves to live on.

I never said it'd be abused, I said "that many users will misjudge when the thread deserves a lock or not (the same reason why everyone doesn't have the lock tool already)".

Typing in random letters = somewhat coherent username!

Good idea, just have it put a limiter on how many of your own threads you can lock a day.

Cortana 5 is a carbon-based lifeform that frequently visits these forums, currently residing in the United States. Practically every male on the site responds to her posts.

The Joyeuse IP Formula

For the most part, I'm on the fence about this. Although, I tend to stick to the policy of how once you make a thread, it's not really yours anymore. With that in mind, I say no. It's not yours to lock.

You can PM a mod if things go sour or you put it in the wrong forum. But I think that if it were around, it would be used for when people go, "Wahhh! People don't agree with my OP so I'm locking it for teh flaemz!"

It's just as easy to ask a Ninja to lock your thread. If you have a legitimate reason to have your thread locked they'll comply.

Indeed. Especially, if the button toggled. Then you would have threads locking and unlocking over and over again. Would be very annoying!

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

No, because then it will take a key aspect out of Bungie: fear. One fears and loves Bungie.

  • 03.13.2012 3:07 PM PDT

Spread the love...

I'm going to say no because there'd be confusion if a Ninja locked it or if the OP locked it, which could lead to lying and messy situations.

I Brought This up a couple months ago and the general Feeling was no then also. Because this could be greatly over used by people. I think The Mods are doing a good job with locking unnecessary Threads or threads that are done. Maybe Someday in a better world.

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

>Makes rule-breaking OP.
>Locks and lets it die before any ninja sees it.

Or,
>OP not able to hold up to people disagreeing.
>Locks thread in frustration.

Neither are helpful.

Rarity FTW

It would be a good idea. Maybe there could be some limit on it for the Floodians, like you can only lock one of your threads every few hours or once a day.
