Subject: Would you like a button that locks your own threads?

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

I think not. If the rest of the community doesn't like the thread, they won't post in it. If they do, the OP shouldn't lock it. If it is inappropriate, the moderators can handle it. Besides, why give a shotgun to a suicidal person?

Why are you reading my signature? Who actually opens these things and reads them!

And as always, SEND ME A PM. Please. Or really bad things will happen to you.

Once a thread is posted the OP no longer has ownership of it!

Old School

It could potentially be of use, however, I see it being used in horrible, horrible way in The Flood.

How about a whole 10 pages of locked threads?

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I have to admit that would be quite a sight.

Once a thread is posted the OP no longer has ownership of it!

This is why we can't have nice things.

Giving users control over something that is a moderator permission isn't the best of ideas. Sure, some would use it for the purpose it was intended, but as always, you can find the majority of people abusing this.

Once a person submits a thread, it is no longer their thread - it belongs to the public forums and property of Bungie. Just be conscious of what you post before you post it. That way there really isn't a need to put in such a user feature.

Achronos said it better - same concept applies

No, you can not give every member the power to stop a discussion.

No. Someone would post a thread to get their view across, then lock it before any arguments can occur.

  • 03.13.2012 8:30 PM PDT

I don't think this would be a good thing.

It would be easily abused, easily

If you see this post in your topic I'm sorry to tell you but your topic is dying.

Absolutely, you try to kill your own thread and people just keep posting to spite you.

I've been here a decent amount of time to know you're all crazy

Meh. Not very needed, but would be nice I guess

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"Don't eat doughnuts on thin ice."

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

My first thought was "awesome!", but as it churned in my head I have decided that no, I don't think it would be the best idea.

My Screenshots / My Group / Remember to follow the rules or you will get trapped in a box.

It would be great but it might too difficult to add and maintain on the site.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

I'd always accidentally lock mine and then if we weren't provided with an unlock button i'd be screwed.

  • 03.14.2012 1:12 AM PDT

I can see it being usefull for users who create threads pretty often, but I wouldn't need it since I hardly ever create threads.

I don't think it's a good idea. It would make moderating harder.

  • 03.14.2012 4:07 AM PDT

In my opinion it is not necessary to implement this option,
people would just use it to stop an argument, if it doesn't go their way.
If the debate develops to a flamewar, there are still the ninjas to stop it.

I am not sure that its something I would want. I could see myself using it but I could also see it getting overused by the community.

Let the moderators decide when to lock a thread.

Nah, I'd rather people not have the option. I think it'd be used in petty ways often enough, just to allow the OP to get the last word. Also, if someone asked a question, then got an answer, they may lock it with good intentions, but then if someone else has a followup question on the same topic, they have to start a new thread, which just adds clutter and semi-repeat threads.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

I could see it being useful in some situations, like if you feel one of your technical questions has been answered, but, as others have said, I think people would just abuse it in the end.

  • 03.14.2012 10:30 AM PDT

People would just make a thread, and then when one person disagrees they could just lock it. There is great potential for abuse.
