The Farcry 2 World Builder is a phenomenal tool for editing. With this being one of the first map modding software to make it to the 360, imagine what Reach would have been like with it..

My only hope is that they include something similar in Halo 4.

I'll pass.

Why? It would be much easier for map makers and forgers to be able to forge actual terrain than trying to conform to Forge World and straight blocks.

Agreed ps thanks for posting in my other thread

no its legit, i used coordinates, set weapon timers the works.

Though I do enjoy Forging, I agree with the others. Halo is not about Forge, it's about the story and MM multiplayer.

Forge is just a bonus.

Very true, but I feel like with the latest trailer, forge is being left in the dust a little bit. This would allow maps to be made with so much more ease..

I don't see a problem with that.

90% of them are crap. Even the ones in Matchmaking are crap.

Exactly. But that still leaves us with 90k good maps, 5k great maps, and some truly brilliant work done by a few.

Agreed send me friend request wimpy warrior I'm Andurian 7 on xbox

Forge is beast

The problem is file size. With Reach's map editor, even the biggest maps are only 25KB. That farcry map editor looks at though they'd be closer to 25MB due to the way the editor works. with reach, all you need to know is the XYZ position and Yaw, pitch, roll of all the objects you put down. That's like 12 bytes per object.

It isn't our shiznit anymore.

The only way to get a good Halo map editor is to set up a PC program for people to use and be able to send to their 360's to play. Something like the Warcraft 3 World Editor or Gmod would be amazing due to their ease of use, but I don't think Microsoft would approve of unregistered third party content going to the Xbox, for whatever silly reason.

farcry 2 had 3 crap game modes that u could not edit like halo. also the gameplay itself was pure crap

also the FC instincts or predator whatever its called also had a map editor and its from 2005 or 2006 on xbox 360. the xbox1 also had a map editor

and farcry 1 for pc was probably the best
You were completely off topic with your post.

game mods and other such things are not a part of this topic, the map building engine is.

Pretty much this. Why make a whole new map from scratch when a bunch of placed objects still looks nice and takes waaaayyyy less space?

+People probably won't want to have to download 100 megabyte or above maps in matchmaking just to play, would cause issues.

That is not forge. That is complete map editing.

You are obviously not an experienced forger.. And you don't appear to appreciate aesthetics, or the tremendous amount of time most maps in matchmaking take.

  • 03.14.2012 6:38 PM PDT

I think you misunderstood my post....I SUPPORT forged maps...

Most of them are very aesthetically pleasing with the forerunner structures available to work with.

When did I claim to be an experienced forger, and how is that relevant?

NO! NO! NO! Do you realize how difficult it was to find a playable map on that game?! Sure we would be able to make maps from scratch, but could you be able to make a map from scratch?

I, for one, am completely satisfied with the current map editor, and I believe its best for most of the community to stick with Halo's original system.

how is that relevant?

You have no idea, the difficulty in creating a map when terrain is fixed and all you have is flat pieces. Sure, maybe MLG, smaller maps are easier. But BTB maps, they need a terrain editor. Sorry, I was not insulting your experience or anything.

Downloading Forge maps is easy because the information for every Forge piece is already on your disk/console, and all the map file contains is instructions on where to render them.

A map editor would require people to download an entire map file.

That being said, Halo 4's Forge could work around this problem by incorporating natural looking Forge pieces like mountains or running water that match the map's palette, so it would look almost like the terrain is being edited.
