Subject: Destiny Link?

Yes, I am one of those impatient nuts that are looking for any scrap that may even hint at a connection to Bungie's future project, Destiny. Today I was looking over some news on GameFly and saw this project called Endless Space. Due to the nature of Bungie's hints at Destiny, I thought there was maybe a chance this was somehow linked to them. Below is a link to the site, but it is fairly obscure as to what is actually happening with the game.

http://www.endlesspace.com/

The video feels like Bungie in ways, and has small moments where you can't help but recognize things that have been mentioned. The Bungie fist even shows up at 0:34 in the video. Upon looking into it more, the site is ran by a completely different organization called Amplitude, and seems to be a separate project. Regardless, it is an interesting idea for a game, and leaves us to speculate what Bungie will be capable of doing with their own "universe".

If anyone else is able to find a potential link/rumor/speculation/debunk, feel free to post it here.

**EDIT**
Just for clarification, here are some of the phrases and concepts I see linked between Destiny and this Endless Space project:
- "A universe that is constantly there for you", one that "is mostly determined by the users". Bungie employees stated in the ViDoc that they were excited to see what the community would do with these worlds.
- "Per Audacia Ad Astra", "See you starside". I know there can be more than one space game, just saying...
- Recent hirings that seem to match the games main features, especially the Global Economy position.
- The "Pentathlon" Fist seen in the video and various images of the game.
- The "Invitation" that comes up during the video is address to Mister Chief. Odd coincidence...
- Bungie themselves have mentioned that the space portion of Halo:Reach was used for the purpose of exploring space flight and gaming. The image seen in the video has striking resemblances to the Halo Engine.
- Endless Space will feature 8 "factions" that will make up the gaming community, which Bungie has hinted at for months with their T-shirts and Logos spread out all over the web.
- We have seen Bungie's desire to manage/mix RTS and FPS. Even Halo began as a RTS game, and only transformed into a FPS once they realized how BA Master Chief was.

Overall, I still don't believe that Destiny = Endless Space, but it is hard to ignore the similarities. Plus, I would not put it past Bungie to work vicariously through a small game developing company for the sake of secrecy and their general disdain for "the man" of the gaming industry. I don't know the politics of this industry, but for Amplitude to be founded in 2011 and put out the Beta of a game of this magnitude with only 16 staff members seems a little out of sorts.

And what better way to kill two birds with one stone: get input from gamers around the world while also remaining in total secrecy as an organization.

They said the HQ is in Paris, Bungie is in Seattle, USA. How is this part of Bungie?

They are not making other game for someone else to keep it. This time is for them.

Destinypedia - The Wiki for Bungie's Destiny

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

I can't see a link here. Not to talk trash about other developers, but what I see here is a rather unimaginative concept that is made worse by the fact that the developer has decided to "crowdsource" the game's content development, a concept that reflects a lack of creativity and which is generally regarded as disastrous by many folks in the game development industry. Take a look through any of our Halo forums pre-launch for ample evidence.

The similarities to the content of Bungie's games in this video are, to me, another indicator of a lack of creativity, not an indicator of a link to Bungie. The concept, and the surrounding circumstances, do not feel to me like Bungie at all.

Just sounds to me like they're trying to replicate Infinity.

(On a side note, I saw him not too long ago. I even come out in the video. xD)

Either way, I really want to play a decent space game. If it is Bungie that is making it, just chill because they are far from done.

If they wanted to do that, they could merely have a sign-up for a few select beta testers, or perhaps ask their mothers what they think of it.

Same.

I mean, for all intents and purposes, Halo is a largely terrestrial game. Not until Reach do we have a truly space-based area of combat. I mean sure there were spaceships but the vast majority of game play is on (granted, very foreign) planets.

I'm not saying I want a space flight simulator but something that is more space-centric as opposed to foreignly terrestrial. If that makes sense.

I would not say that the idea is unimaginative. If you were to skim through some of the back story and features, I think you would see some of the rich lore and deep economic structure. Don't get me wrong, RTS does not appeal to me as a gamer, and this game does not excite me all that much. But I would not say it is unimaginative.

In regards to community influence, it could be either laziness or pure selflessness. The fact that they want to involve gamers and allow them to be a part of the development process (albeit a small one, I'm sure) very much reminds me of how much Bungie values our input. Of course they hold standards on a basic level, but so is this game. The community is deciding on smaller details of the game, and even then choosing between three options. I commend them for having the boldness to do so.

Lastly, to be clear, I do not think this is Destiny. I am simply making connections with some of the hints we have heard. Doing so makes me wonder and imagine what Bungie could be up to if they are creating an IP with SOME of these features. It is fun to speculate and make assumptions (never know when you'll be right), but this conversation was intended to explore possibilities, not claim truth. In short, if a young, 14 person dev team can do this in a year or two, what will Bungie present to us when the time is right?
