Subject: Incorporate Some Groups Into The Advertisements???

Spread the love...

So right now Bungie's only advertisement is to the Community Forum. (here it is)

I was thinking it could be a good idea to have some random groups getting advertised so the community would grow. It could be random, or it could be based off of most group activity, oldest group, e.t.c.

Just an idea I had. I also made an example one for a group I'm in, Cafe. Here is the advertisement alone. Here it is in the forum.

(The link would lead to the Group's home page)

Tell me what you think!

The beta is super awesome. RogueAssassin27 is now the person who got my Totodile's nickname. Hoo-hah! Relevant.inb4lock

And have group owners pay for that? Nah.

I think a better idea would be to innovate the Classifieds. Allow graphics.

No, the groups wouldn't pay for it. It would be free.

Also, these would end once Bungie came out of being dark and could advertise their new game.

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

I like this idea, it would help bring the groups back from the dead.

Well, it's already got one thing over the Classifieds: People would see it. Seriously, who even goes in the classifieds?

Yes, the classfields is very dead.

Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

Which groups would be shown?

The larger groups don't really need advertising whilst the smaller groups are often not cared for and a lot are just a waste of space.

Whisper Game Studios - shhhh, it's a public secret.
Webcam MVP
Sarsion.net
Bnet PM Policy

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

I think every Ride-Along group should be able to submit a banner design (alternatively, could ask for assistance in a public thread here for image-editing awesome folks to make one for them) and then perhaps they could be put on a cycle.

Would be MUCH cooler than the Group Spotlights page, which nobody looks at.

However, it could be monopolizing. There'd be no love for the little guys.

Xbox Ambassador: Feel free to ask any questions you might have about a Xbox issue in a PM to me. I may be able to help!

I'm in favor of this idea.

They should make it to where you can submit your theme/design of the ad, and the link to the group's homepage. Through email: BungieGroupAds@bungie.net

This would definitely be something that would help bring most groups some more activity.

I bet Bungie could find a way to make it fair. Maybe make it COMPLETELY RANDOM, or some other factor.

I think maybe a list of groups on the side of the page that changes every time you go to a new page would be cool. Alternatively a link sort like what is on Wikipedia that takes you to a random group.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Completely Random? No. In theory, any groups that were advertised would have to completely uphold the terms of service. That means no vulgar or offensive material in the private group forums. That's not something a lot of groups can boast about.

Maybe groups could submit themselves for review, then be put into the "roster" of advertised groups?

I see that requiring a lot of man power to do well.

I'm not trying to rip apart your idea. I love community-driven movements toward making this place better; it's kinda my thing, really. While it would be good to advertise to improve community solidarity and involvement, I just don't see it being achieved easily, and history of Bnet shows that if it can't be done easily, it's not getting done.

It's a decent idea, just not one I would put on the top of my list. Keep thinking.

Yeah, I see what you mean...it would take people lot's of time to make sure it's "appropriate". How 'bout Sonic's idea of all the Ride Along groups? That could work...

@spawn031

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

Were it so easy...

I think there is more to putting up advertisements on gaming websites that meets the eye. There are people that only lurk the website and never post. Heck, they might not even have an account here. Only the webteam knows how much traffic this place gets on a daily basis.

With that being said, obviously Bungie is going to use it for their own advertisement purposes. [quick question] Does it cost Bungie money to host those advertisements?[/quick question]

The more public images they host, they would have to copyright and protect that image to their website - just shooting ideas out here. Yes, it would be great for a system for private group spotlights, as previously mentioned hardly anyone looks at spotlights for the old system.

Perhaps if users could "subscribe" to a thread and get a weekly PM on the next group spotlight. Imagine the possibilities of a "subscription" system. Even if you couldn't create threads and only subscribe to Bungie threads, just like the Voting Booth forum.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

This idea has been poured on the Webteam like a bucket of water for ages now. They've heard our calls, let us wait until the next version of Bungie.net launches. I think there's a large chance it'll happen; maybe not this idea specifically, but a revolution of the advertisements will hopefully occur in the next iteration.

Let us wait.

Implement a feature that allows you to see posts in a group per day. Then let groups earn points based on posts. Good way to ensure that private chapters don't die.

Isn't that the point of an ad? Advertising the classifieds would make more people know about it and keep it more present in people's minds, increasing traffic. Also, creating one ad for the classifieds would be much simpler than figuring out a way to advertise all the groups active on B.net.

There are almost 50 unique clans/group advertisements posted just today. What do you mean nobody goes there?
