Aw crap Qbix looks scary!

It might seem like a good idea, but I think it's better without it.

Remember all of the complaints in the Reach forum about having to reach Warrant Officer to unlock the Ultra Elite armour? Practically the same thing.
One man's resolution is another man's problem.
Actually, it isn't/wasn't a problem at all.

I don't recall anyone ever making any serious complaints about it being unfair to new players that others who had been playing for longer had extra perks... which is the entire point I'm making.

This is true. Besides the shiny bar thing, and even then it's not a deal of fair/unfair. Just whining. :]

Of course, this will make it much more easier to find all the Mythic posts out of all the petty lower ones!

No, it's not necessary.
So what you're saying is that any idea that 'isn't necessary' should be shut down immediately? Sad Face.

You may be right about immediately shutting down the idea, but his logic in his first argument holds some truth to it.

Currently there is no question that posts by a mythic member, forum ninjas, or an employee, stick out way more than other posts, and distract the attention away from post that could potentially hold great value.

Adding avatars that can only be used by higher titles would further distract from post by other users that do not have these avatars. Posts and opinions could be missed and the poster of these posts might be excluded from the discussion.

With a system like this it creates almost a barrier, where effectively, "the rich stay rich, and the poor stay poor." Bungie.net should be one community as a whole working together, not a bunch of manufacturer classes working against each other.

Keep all current avatars available for everyone and add new ones for the different titles. Problem solved. And saying it takes too long isn't really an argument, it would promote good behavior, and is that not what we want?
Posted by: zoobkillerninja
The fact is at the moment is that you would be taking away from new members.. plus title system takes to long to were a avatar would motivate you to become mythix

It would promote good behavior, but then I'd feel like a monkey being trained for world domination... Oh, wait!

Okay, so let's expand on the avatar idea.
Why not have avatars for the following
1. Prefix
2. Title
3. Years (1-3-5-7-9+)
4. Random Criteria (amount of Bungie games played, Linked GT specific, X groups joined, etc)

This way, we're adding an abundance of avatars that are basically open to everyone.

I honestly don't see avatars being anything special, in terms of your "post attention" theory. With H2, H3, ODST and Reach having custom avatars, almost everyone was able to have some sort of custom avatar to an extent. Having a few emblems that are 'unlockable' wouldn't be anywhere near as attention grabbing as gold text. They'd just be thrown into the mix of the thousands of avatars that are currently floating around. Not to mention, these avatars would be held by many. What you're getting at is understandable, but only in the cases of Moderators and Employees. Their avatars are one of a kind on this website. They will absolutely grab attention because nobody else can have them.

Funny how the only people who like this idea are Legendaries and Mythics.

LOL.

I actually would like to see some sort of incentive for maintaining a mix of good behaviour, as well as being a member of the site for a long period of time. It shouldn't so much act as a force for people to behave so they can reach that "awesome" avatar (although if it did, then well, that's up to the user); but more so about rewarding members which do behave based on the reason of them being themselves.

Also, I wouldn't see why new members would be irritated about someone who has been here a lot longer than them, as well as having proved themselves of behaving well over the months and years, just because they have an avatar they deserve to have earned. Not to mention that if you do wish to come here, you should come to discuss the topics you love with other people who are part of this massive gaming community, and not nit-pick as to why someone has an avatar which they don't have access to.

Can't see this being a bad thing. I'm sure Achronos has some better ideas coming our way in the next site update though, or rather, I hope he does.

I really like this idea, though I don't think it should necessarily be linked with titles.

If it were though, a user who goes down to a lower title should keep the avatars.

And thought people have brought up the "Mythic should get custom avatars" debate before, I think it's a valid idea: only, what, 10% - 20% or less of the entire member base are mythics. If they had to submit a custom avatar, the amount of submissions would be low enough that the ninjas/Bungie could probably manageably handle them.

Or allow people who have a very very high trust rating submit custom avatars.

Nah it's too hard to rank up IMO. Titles are cool but there shouldn't be any rewards attached to them.

My opinion? Horrible idea.

As long as it would just be new avatars added, and not any taken away, how so?

And it's not mostly legendaries and mythics, it's a pretty even distribution. There is a abnormally high amount of legendaries and mythics that are against it, though.

Personally, I have always had no issue with giving higher titles more stuff, even when I was a normal member. They are just milestones you reach the more you post without doing anything wrong.

No that seems stupid.
We should all have the same number of avatars. It's fair that way.

I don't hear anyone complaining about it being unfair that they don't have every single gamer picture or avatar item on Xbox LIVE.

Why do you think that is?

They may be held by many, but for example a certain avatar may be used by many, but it would only be used by Mythic Members, which would, from my point of view, distract even more from the main discussion.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

I think it's a fine idea rewards good behavior and long term investment in the community.

Because no one cares about their Xbox avatar?

I wouldn't have a problem with this if the title system wasn't so... indecisive. You see Mythic's drop down to Legendary for no reason at all quite often.

Now I have curiosity to see who has the most banned days accumulated. I should be somewhere up there.
