Subject: Is it possible to have a 911 thread?

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

Real life? What is that?
Graphics are good, gameplay sucks. Overhyped IMO.

Lol one member.

Lame vigilante group is lame.

OT: Yes, I think this could be good. When I frequented the Runescape forums they had a similar thing, seemed to work nicely. Then again, that was a very different userbase with less rule infringement.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

In all honesty, I think that some people's idea of an "emergency" is very different from reality.

For example, a thread about Hitler appreciation lasting for several pages is not a "forum emergency," despite what anybody may think. So the thread lasts a few pages and a moderator bans the guy within 30 minutes instead of within 2. Who cares? Absolutely nothing will be affected if the thread is locked and its creator banned later rather than sooner, except that it might grow longer.

A "forum emergency" is really only when there is account theft, personal information being posted, or an imminent threat of IRL violence. And the fact is that I can't think of a single instance of a true emergency when the moderators were not notified within a few moments. Many regulars on these forums have access to several ninjas' instant messenger accounts and even some of our phone numbers. On the extremely rare occasions that a true forum emergency occurs, I have received text messages and phone calls within a few minutes telling me to get my butt onto BNet to deal with it. But I would be really pissed off if somebody used any kind of emergency notification method to report a Hitler thread.

A "911 thread" would work equally as well as the report queue or the moderators browsing the forums by themselves, that is to say, really fast or really slow depending on when a moderator happens to be looking.

Instead of trying to think of ways to notify the moderators faster about rulebreaking threads, try to remember that a thread that merely violates the forum rules is not a "forum emergency," and does not require immediate action. Report it, don't reply to it, and move on, and a moderator will take care of it soon.

Key

I don't think calling people out in public, trolls/rule-breakers or not, is a good idea. It'd only result in the thread being 90% fighting over whether or not someone was breaking the rules and people getting offended etc. that people would resort to PM's so that they didn't have to bother with arguing with the person that they're "telling" on.

Back when I roamed the Runescape forums, they didn't have a report button. We had a thread where we'd post who broke the rules, which thread it was, which page it was on, and the reason. It was very efficient and worked very well.

Just a stray thought.
