deej pls

I was just browsing through some older versions of the site, and saw the old mark at the bottom of the page.

I tried to go to the URL, but the site has been taken off the air, so to speak, and no longer exists. I even tried Google searching the name "Ideal Science", yet no meaningful information was found.

Anyone here know what that old mark was about, and how Bungie.net was powered by Ideal Science?

I was here when it was powered by Ideal Science(or Ideal5?). I tried to figure out what it actually was, but came up with no answers as well.

That adds even more suspicion. I was here, too, but with no account.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I don't know the right way to explain it, but I am pretty sure Ideal Science is where Bungie had the site outline from.

Well, I was making tacos so, I'm not sure about the other guys.

Scroll down through this thread for a post from Achronos. The info there doesn't cover everything but it sheds a little bit of light. If you search "ideal science" in the searchbar you may find more info.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

Ideal Science was the name of a company we contracted (in late 2003) to develop the basic systems that make up the forum software (just the forum software, not the rest of the site). We did this because we didn't have the time or the people to make a new forum as well as get the site ready for Halo 2. We designed it, they just wrote the code. Since that initial development, we have extensively modified it to the point that it would be not really recognizable.

The contract between us and them allowed them to repackage their forum work and sell it as a stand alone product, which they did for a time as "IdealBB.NET". By the time they started selling it though, bungie.net was already using a significantly customized version of that system.

The company itself no longer exists though. Most people wanting to buy off the shelf forum systems won't be using .Net, they'll be running something open source, like PHP. I'd imagine that's why they went out of business.

At any rate, this forum is not long for this world. It is 2012, after all - time to retire 2004 era tech. We can do better.

Bungie.net. Website. A site begun in 2004. Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic website.

Bungine.net will be that site. Better than it was before.

Better.

Stronger.

Faster.

Well I hope we keep usernames and account at any rate, Achronos. If we have to repick names, people will undoubtedly try to steal the glory that is 'burritosenior.'

/hopes forums and accounts aren't TOTALLY deleted.

It's true!

Thought it's less for "glory" and more for "it's funny because your name isn't modular".

Not to try to be serious about a joke burrito made, but I feel like if that did happen you would have priority over your own username before you said you wanted to change it if you did.

I mean that if Hylebos was already registered by some marauding miscreant, it wouldn't bother me too much, as it's very easy to come up with a cool sounding unregistered name based off of Hylebos without having to resort to using X's or numbers.

Hylebosai, Hylebosaiden, Hylebosque, the list of potential replacement names is endless. The username is modular, because it's easy to turn it into something cool and new by slapping on an extra phonetic phrase.

The same can't be said for burritosenior. Unless you want to go down the "burritoseniora" route.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

I'm telling you, early April. They updated them for Halo 2; why wouldn't they update it for their first universe after the Halo franchise? This is supposed to be genre-defining, and they have to update the site in late March a bit anyway to modify stats stuff, I think.

I could be crazy though.
