Real life? What is that?
Graphics are good, gameplay sucks. Overhyped IMO.

At any rate, this forum is not long for this world. It is 2012, after all - time to retire 2004 era tech. We can do better.

We are awaiting the New New New Hawtness very happily.

Ideal Science was the name of a company we contracted (in late 2003) to develop the basic systems that make up the forum software (just the forum software, not the rest of the site). We did this because we didn't have the time or the people to make a new forum as well as get the site ready for Halo 2. We designed it, they just wrote the code. Since that initial development, we have extensively modified it to the point that it would be not really recognizable.

The contract between us and them allowed them to repackage their forum work and sell it as a stand alone product, which they did for a time as "IdealBB.NET". By the time they started selling it though, bungie.net was already using a significantly customized version of that system.

The company itself no longer exists though. Most people wanting to buy off the shelf forum systems won't be using .Net, they'll be running something open source, like PHP. I'd imagine that's why they went out of business.

At any rate, this forum is not long for this world. It is 2012, after all - time to retire 2004 era tech. We can do better.

Shame. I really like the current forum system. It's very clean and clear cut. Not a lot of bells and whistles.

That would be incredibly poor business sense. Don't worry, you will forever be greasy meat.

Can we have this current forum layout as a download then? Sure recycle it, but don't get rid of it.

I doubt we'll be going full blown emoticons and whistles. I think we've made it abundantly clear that many of use enjoy the simpleness of Bungie.net.

It isn't our shiznit anymore.

With a new website (forum? I don't know how to computer) comes cool new gadgets, like a "like" button and image embedding. I'm guessing if Bungie suddenly gives us all these new privileges right now we'll likely see the same horrific day when people discovered how to embed images, but a new forum is a way to start on a clean slate...

The same can't be said for burritosenior. Unless you want to go down the "burritoseniora" route.

Why does Bungie use .NET and not open source PHP (like vbulletin)?

Compared to other game company websites Bungie.net is a very well done scripted website.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

I'm learning (read: attempting to learn) database integration with C# at the moment. By .NET do you mean C#? VB doesn't seem like the go-to language for a website of b.net's caliber. Additionally I'd assume Microsoft SQL, or more likely MySQL for the database jazz? I've never actually heard of someone using C# for a website, though I would imagine it would be quite powerful.

By any chance will a similar variation of the forums be available out of the box sort of speak after the new swag is put in motion?

I know the current format is "outdated" but it would be better then some sites which are still running 1999 tech...
