Anybody know a good firewall besides zonealarm? just today zonealarm has blocked 8 intrusions and I suspect at least a few more made it past somehow, I have closing applications, slowing of the CPU, the works. I keep reverting my hard drive to reverse the damage, but it is getting to be too much of a hastle. BTW please recomend a free firewall, I have no money. I was unable to be at the Maw gathering for long before a "blocked intrusion" window minimised the game, I took that as reason enough to quit, seeing as when something minimises Halo, I can never get the game started again. After this I am going to revert my hard drive, another "blocked intrusion" window came up.

i dont know of a good free firewall, but you might be able to get a free trial of Norton, wich is about as good as they get.And try just running system restore.

uhhh huh...... Norton? I used norton, got a ton of viruses gone, Then I used AVG, and got 37 that Norton missed. I think I will stick with AVG. BTW, I am asking for a firewall, not antivirus software.

Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall -- Free download, full function for 30 days, then reverts to the free version features (or pay $20 to keep all features).
Try this one, it's pretty good for a free product.
By the way, I remember playing with us last night, but you were warping all over the place. Hope you get sorted out soon ...

Kerio went rogue on me and won't install anymore, I use Sygate Personal Firewall. Best schtuff I've ever used, but if you have DSL (which everyone does) you have some filtering to set up otherwise it can be a real hassle when uploading files / sending attachments etc

You probably have a virus or you're so paranoid your paying attention to how slow your computer is. My virus actually infected all my system restores. So even going back would have caused major problems (however it seems it just causes it to fail) What I'd do is reformat without *any* connection to the internet. Apply SP2, install A/V software and Firewall software, connect yourself to the net and activate windows. Of course none of us like the word reformat :)

Sygate Personal Firewall got bought by Symantec and now is no longer free. I use Zone Alarm as well now.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Getting a cheap D-Link router can work, too. By default, all incoming traffic is blocked; all you have to do is open a few ports in the router's configuration settings to allow stuff like voice chat and sending files through MSN. The big upshot of using hardware is you free up system resources that would otherwise be taken up by a software firewall.

Myeah.. I never had any problems with ZoneAlarm. It catched everything so far... then again, I am using it in combination with a Linksys router.

I use ZoneAlarm too, it works fine for me.

Whenever a pop-up tells you about some intrusion, there's an option to hide those alerts.
