"Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before." - James T Kirk

Wait a minute.....

So this is all a push for Forerunner tech found on Onyx. Yet Onyx got hyper nuked in to oblivion and all the Sentinels that made that planet up dispersed.

It should probably have said Trevelyan.

Kurt Trevelyan?

Sorry it's been a while since I read the earlier novels.

The dyson sphere came out of slipspace into real space during Glasslands. It was named after Kurt. It is likely referring to this superstructure rather than the old Onyx.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I imagine the title has it's reasons... I hope.

I still have to get Glasslands, and Primordium. Hopefully by then I'll have read them.

We’re flawed because we want so much more. We’re ruined because we get these things and wish for what we had.

I really hope halo 4 does better against cod than anniversary and reach did the last 2 years because i'm sick and tired of cod fans going on and on about how much greater cod is than halo.

Sales do not determine the quality of a game. Only idiots think that.

Five exclamations marks are a good signifier of an insane mind. As is trying to hide from Death in an airtight room. Silly wizard.

That is a horrible name for the book. I real was hoping that the GoO sequels would focus on the SIII characters, not pull another few Spartans out of thin air.

good until near the end.

Well Glasslands didn't get that good...ever, so there is that.

I loved Glasslands and I expect I'll enjoy this book a lot too, despite the questionable title.

It's crazy how much hate gets thrown at Traviss around here. :(

Yeah, people having differing opinions that are negative because they didn't enjoy something. What's up with that?

I mean, I can take people having different opinions, and I can see why plenty of people might not be satisfied by Glasslands, but the amount of pure vitriol and "Traviss is ruining Halo" is just overwhelming. It seems like nobody liked the book around here, or those who did aren't vocal at all. And that's kind of depressing to me.

When something is that bad, such a reaction is perfectly logical, especially if you've been a fan since the beginning.

That's the other thing, I've been a pretty big fan for about seven years, and I don't see a reason for the hate other than the fact that the story is moving in a different direction than some fans had expected. Like, there's actually complaints that months after a 25+ year war, the humans and Elites aren't BFFs 4evar. I don't think the book is perfect, sure there are flaws. But the way you see people talking about the book as if it's the end of Halo canon as we know it seems absurd to me.

That complaint is more focused on the characters and their motivations. Telcam's motivations make sense, Jul's and every other "bad" Elite don't. And let's not forget the terrible treatment towards Halsey.

Unfortunately I don't have my copy of Glasslands with me at the moment, otherwise I'd go back through and take at the Elites, I'm sure I'll be able to get a better sense of how they're written on my second time through the book.

The Halsey thing is really interesting to me. aI mean, ever since Fall of Reach we've obviously seen Halsey as a hero of the war, but when you step back and look at the big picture, the things she did are honestly pretty bad ethically. Kidnapping 6-year-olds and submitting them to tremendous physical and emotional pain, putting them through dangerous medical procedures that killed or crippled a good number of them? And the clones left for the parents? Obviously the results speak for themselves, since the Spartans did end up saving the galaxy, bit it's not difficult to see why the characters in Glasslands might have seem pretty strong objections to Halsey's actions.

Did Glasslands pretty harsh against Halsey? Yeah, definitely.
But for the most part (mainly talking about Kilo-Five here), this was a pretty reasonable position to take. I don't think it's an anti-Halsey agenda Traviss is going to shove down our throats for the rest of the trilogy, rather a natural reaction anyone would give to characters in Kilo-Five's situations.

Now, I'm probably being a little overly optimistic here, as I do have a bit of a problem with the whole Mendez-Halsey conflict that seems to have sprung up out of nowhere, but I'm trying to withhold too much judgment until we can see how the rest of the trilogy plays out. I'm pretty confident 343 knows what they're doing with Halsey's books, and i really don't think they'd let her do anything to damage the Halo universe. But we'll see.

Woah, I just realized how long-winded this post is getting, sorry. I just really like being able to have a discussion about this stuff I guess. :P
