Subject: Matchmaking team balance

I admit not being very good at this game. The trouble is I always seem to be on the team who gets beat 50/10.

Can't understand it. I know that rank has nothing to do with matchmaking, but I became a Colonel and since then I have seemed to struggle. In February, I went from captain to commander grade 2 because of the credit bonanza. Maybe it's me.

over time you will develop and adapt to the game and be pretty good!,

the game is sort of like math + quickness (in my opinion)

also depends on who your up against

but anyways you just practice till you know every corner in every map then you'll must likely succeed

  • 03.16.2012 12:02 PM PDT

and once you are you could rack up points + carry the team even though nobody else is scorring ! =)))

Incorrect. If you just play over and over again and call it 'practice' you'll still never get any better. Proof? All the dumpy Inheritors and high ranks.

It's the same as anything else in life: you have to know what to practice in order to get better and see any progress. In Halo these skills are things such as timing weapons, knowing when to push, how to team shoot, call out, how to control a map, run an objective, etc.

Knowing a map and playing a lot don't help much at all.

Bad players don't know what these things are, hence why they play a lot and stay bad.

Sure, their aim may improve over time, but aiming is a very small skill in Halo.

There's reasons bad players are bad and good players are that much better.

And bad players don't know how to do these things, so how do they practice them?

Your mind is the best weapon you have.. If you're always one step ahead of your opponent, you will win almost every time.

Very generic response.

Explain to someone how they should go about this.

Very true.. Let's see here..

-Know the maps up and down, front and back
-Time weapons where possible
-Know which situations to push, which to stay put, back down
-Have a headset of some sort. It helps to hear lifts/footsteps/etc.
-Find tactical jumps that give you an advantage.
-Callouts, communication, etc.
-Have your gameplay critiqued by a decent player

Idk just some things off the top of my head

This happens to pretty much everyone. Reach's implementation of trueskill very rarely creates even matchups. You could search with a party or do as I do and forget MM altogether.

Better.

Pretty much all I do is play smart (generic much, eh? But I don't feel like typing out everything I think in game on here though).

Very rarely do I out-aim someone, yet that's what most players assume makes a better player.

"Play enough and your aim will be awesome and you'll know what to do"

Wrong. Your aim will get better but you'll play stupidly if you do the wrong things over and over.

Same here.. Obviously I do out-snipe and out-DMR people a lot. But it really comes down to how well you think the game.

I've been matched up with you several times. Top of the leaderboard in most.

Ah yes, that sounds like me. Unfortunately I search solo so I'll still lose by more than half of the final points.

Life is a journey, if you spend all of it with your nose in your map, you may miss some of the best parts.

Play FFA instead.

Hey, this has been a helpful thread, so i'll add in. Always try to know where the power weapons are, (Sniper, Shotgun, Rockets typically).

Always up for REACH customs!

Maybe the team you're on loses so much because you're really really bad, not the other way around?

The thing you need to concentrate on most is not dying.
