Subject: Which posts do you chose to read?

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

In any given thread, no matter how many replies, my selection process for choosing which replies to read when skimming through a thread are based off two simple rules (in the event I dont have enough time or simply chose not to read all the replies.)

1. I base it off avatars. If I see a few avatars that I recognize as familiars or friends of mine, I'll likely have a read.

2. Out of all the pages of replies, theres a fair percentage of people I don't know nor do I typically care about what it is they're saying. But often times I'll select that random member, and sometimes it's worth it but more often than not I instantly regret wasting those three seconds of my life reading the garbage they spew from their fingertips on to my screen.

Anyway, how about you lads and lasses?

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

I read all of them...

Ones which say 'posted by helveck' :D

Nah, anything that catches my eye. I do try sometimes to read every post before I submit my reply though.

Exactly, I mean otherwise you would have entered the thread, seen nothing of relevance and then walked right out.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

I tend to read them all out of sheer habit, and partial boredom I suppose.

Now if I'm on my mobile and time is short, I'll just read the posts of people that I know and recognize; seeing as they're more likely to deliver satisfaction during my quick browse.

  • 03.16.2012 1:01 PM PDT

I do just about the same thing you do but more often than not I will lead every reply just to get a good idea of what's going on.

Key

I tend to read Mythic posts more because, while sarcastic most of the time with a hint of silliness, they're usually more well informed than the typical user and know how to discuss topics rather than automatically turn it into an inflammatory argument.

They've got a refreshing "been there done that" attitude that comes with being here for a while and have made their values and personal views about the ways in which this site and its community should evolve (including not at all) and operate.

Sort of like high school seniors. Just from my experience in high school, seniors tend to not give as much of a -blam!- about little things and the physical fights that happen in my school are typically between sophomores and juniors. Seniors just don't care enough to bring it to such an inflammatory and extreme stage of conflict.

Same with Mythics. They've gotten all of that out of their system, realized that inflammatory arguments usually yield no positive results and have instead opted to simply discuss matters rather than start useless and silly arguments about them.

Now, of course, this isn't true about all Mythics, though I've never seen a mythic act quite as immaturely as some vanilla members do (please, person who always says I'm a dick, you know who you are, don't respond to this with "What the hell r u talking about ur so immatur like wat the -blam!-?!". you know who you are.).

And most mythics are recognizable to me via avatar (well, Septagon regulars anyway) so TL;DR:

1.

Positive vibes.

If I do, I normally begin to read the long, draw out post-replies, but usually stop halfway through to read some of the shorter, witty responses. I suppose my eye is drawn to particular usernames, avatars, and title bars, but all-in-all, I rarely read anything but the original post.

:)

Webcam MVP
Sarsion.net
Bnet PM Policy

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

Usually: proper punctuation, quotes, Mythics, Legendaries, long-winded posts that have some sort of structure to them (like paragraphs, of all things) that are about a topic I care about.

Actually, a lot of the time I tend not to even read the full thing if I'm not that interested in it. I haven't read anything in this thread beyond a few words, phrases and short-posts simply because I'm about to go to bed, and I'm really just replying to the title and premise. It's a good question though.

It's still not as weird as typing up a clever or witty or intelligent response to something and then just going "wait, why am I bothering?" and hitting "cancel".

Oh, and in addition, I read all of my friends' posts. Or people whom I like very much but have no time for. Which (these days) they're both the same.

Depends on the length of the post, the length of the thread, my familiarity with the User, and the color of the bar (Let's face it, a Mythic's post is almost always of higher quality than a regular member's post)

I can't believe I'm the first person to post in this thread

The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success.

The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.

As you waste your breath complaining about life, Someone out there is breathing their last. Appreciate what you have.

If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything.

The first reply and often the couple beneath it then anyone i recognise or if something has been quoted a lot and then the most recent few.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I don't read many. I assume they're all the same repeat topics we see in every damn forum every damn day. Then I randomly ban people for probably spamming with repeat topics, flaming people who make repeat topics, or counter-flaming when people flame for what I assume is a repeat topic.

It works for me. Oh, and don't bother replying to me, I'll assume you're just saying "lol stfu nub" and I'll ban you for not "playing nice".
