Ok here is a few ideas I had about matchmaking and halo 3

Voting

Give some of the power back to the players by implementing a voting system. Now I’m not talking about voting to have players kicked off, I’m talking about voting for the game settings before the match. Now there are a lot of ways that this can be handled but the basic premises is before the match starts a screen would pop up for all players that has something like Press [a] for Midship, [y] for lockout, [x] for Zanzibar. Give each player 5sec to vote and then it tallies up the votes and chooses the winner. If it is a tie matchmaking will randomly pick one of the winners. The next screen could be for the game type, [a] for slayer, [y] for ctf, [x] for KOTH, there could even be a screen for starting weapon set [a] for hardcore, [y] for default, [x] for sniper. For the weapon set it would be nice to have the main ones always be an option (hardcore, and default) and the 3rd (or 4th) option could be randomly picked like one time you might have [x] be snipers, the next time it could be shotgun, or rocket etc..

The voting could also be simplified down to help speed thing along. Like all of the options could be condensed into 1 voting session so it could be [a] slayer pro on lockout, [y] default ctf on Beaver Creek, [x] BR assault on Sanctuary.

Quitting

Something has to be done to help reduce the quitting problem. I understand there are lots of legitimate reasons for why people have to quit out of the game so I think there should be a couple freebees like how the betraying is handled. Have it so the fist 2 or 3 times someone quits out of a game nothing will happen. But after they use up the free ones have it so the next time they quit out they have to wait 15 sec before they can enter back into matchmaking, the next time after that it’s a 20 sec wait, followed by 30 sec, 40sec etc…

Dedicated servers

With the push by M$ to make pc vs 360 games on live I would like to see the addition of true pc dedicated servers. Now I’m not suggestion making a server list, I’m also not suggesting that Bungie or M$ host all of the dedicated servers I am suggesting having a user controlled dedicated server like in the pc world. Being able to play on a dedicated server on a t-1 line rather then somebody’s host on a residential connection would help out tremendously. Now how do we get to play on a t-1 line? Simple, people like me would set up the halo 3 dedicated server on their computer at work and use the companies bandwidth (t-1) to host the games, this is how I ran my Counter-strike and halo pc servers (this is how probably 90% of the pc dedicated servers are run)

So how do we merge dedicated servers into matchmaking and not use a server list? Simple, the owner or admin of the server sets up a list on the server of gamertags (friends, clanmates, etc) that have priority over the server. So how it works is when the server is running and there are no “priority players” currently logged onto halo, the xbox live matchmaking servers take control of the dedicated server and use it for hosting matchmaking (BTB lag free!!). Once one of the “priority players” logs onto halo he then would take control of the dedicated server. He can set up and run custom games if he wants or he can invite friends and jump into matchmaking. If he does jump into matchmaking he is again giving control back over to the xbox live servers to match him up with other players and configure the game settings. But the thing is that he is still connected to his dedicated server, as in when matchmaking matches him up with another party and starts the game his dedicated server is actually hosting the game, so he (and everybody he plays with/against) is always guaranteed a lag free game. The system would be set up that regardless of the other players host rating the dedicated server will always be chosen to host the game.
