I have revamped my idea for a tactical command interface. You should be able to give Marines / allies a list of simple commands: hit the dirt (grenade), hold fire (stealth), fire at will, hold position, follow me, go here.
The way it works: Marines / allies run off their own AI unless you choose to give them commands, so this feature is completely optional. Quit your -blam!-in'.
TO SELECT A MARINE:
* aim at him/her and hit the BACK button.
TO SELECT EVERY NEARBY MARINE:
* hit the BACK button without aiming near one.
ONCE MARINE(S) IS SELECTED:
* push R to order FIRE AT WILL
* push L to order HIT THE DIRT (warn GRENADE)
* push A to order FOLLOW ME
* push X to order HOLD FIRE
* push Y to order GO TO MY RETICLE (aim reticle at a weapon on the ground to have them pick it up)
* push B to cancel
This is unobtrusive and purely optional to use. Allies only work on their own AI unless you choose to issue orders. No, this will not take a long time and could be done during combat with only a split second delay. And no, it will still be a FPS, not purely tactical.
