Subject: So is 343i making the flood like the reapers?

Ahh it's you. Been a while hasn't it? We WILL finish this.

Just you wait.

I heard from my friend that he read halo primordium and that the flood is suppossed to come to the milky way galaxy every 100,000 years and consume 2/3 of the population then leave peacefully. Are they really doing this? Is this legit or is he lying to me? And is it also true the precursors are a collection of different races just like the covenant and that chakas is now a forerunner AI?

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Misinformation... such an annoying thing.

No, the Flood do not come in to the Milky Way every 100,000 years and consume 2/3 of the population before leaving. They test races for worthiness of the Mantle, dictating that in order to be worthy the race must succumb to the Flood. Humanity sacrificed two-thirds of their population to hold back the Flood but this sacrifice led to humanity being seen as worthy, the Flood therefore retreated.

It is implied that the Precursors are a collection of races from the Timeless One's dialogue, yes.

I didn't know that... o.O
Where can I find this information?

  • 03.18.2012 10:16 AM PDT

I thought we were supposed to defeat the flood to prove ourselves worthy of the mantle, which makes sense because the flood stopped attacking us when the forerunners interfered with the "test". although primordium was sort of vague on the whole precursor flood relationship because of all the contradictory statements and didn't go as far into the details as most people would have liked.

  • 03.18.2012 10:18 AM PDT

You can find it in halo primordium book two of the forerunner saga but be warned the book can get real boring at certain parts and like I said has a lot of contradictory information.

  • 03.18.2012 10:21 AM PDT

I thought the Forerunners created the Mantle. And if the Flood tests races to see if they are worthy enough for the Mantle, why did they attack the Forerunners?

How about you just read the forerunner novels? and if anything Bioware ripped the protheans off the Forerunners since they were exactly like that.

No. The Flood was deemed the perfect form of life by the Precursors and the final stage of evolution where all life is united, humanity passed the test but the Forerunners didn't.

Page 364 says: "...the Flood will return when they [humanity] are ripe, and bring them unity"

Given your clear misunderstanding of the book, I don't think you're in much of a position to be criticising it.

Also, the Forerunner novels are the ONLY novels in the Halo series that are pretty much 100% accurate. There are absolutely no canonical discrepancies, so you're talking bollocks.

Towards the end of the book, I think it's page 365, the TO says he is the "last of this kind".

To add onto AJW's post the primordial makes an effort to distinguish itself from the precursors that created the forerunners.

The Forerunners convoluted the Mantle to suit their own ideals. The Flood attacked the Forerunners because they fought back, if they were to be worthy they'd have succumbed and accepted being infected.

  • 03.18.2012 10:31 AM PDT

on page 364 of primordium the primordial says that precursors and flood are not the same, while on the next page he says "we are the flood. There is no difference".

When I said there was contradictory information I meant to say that the primordial wouldn't always give straight answers and if he did they just you even more confused.

Another example of your clear misinterpretations...

  • 03.18.2012 10:42 AM PDT

After ME3's ending, if the Flood is anything like the Reapers I'll cry.

  • 03.18.2012 10:44 AM PDT

how could it be misinterpreted, if you don't believe me check the book yourself (page 364-365), there is nothing else he could have meant by that second statement

It's the Timeless One's belief that the Flood isn't a force, it's a way of being. Everyone united, eternally. A timeless one.

Or that there isn't a difference anymore, you are a fool for sipping every bit of venom that drips from its mouth.

Who knows ? Maybe the forerunners passed the test.
They risked everything they had to safe others, isnt that a thing only a mighty civilization would do ?
We cant surely know since they activitated the halo's.

PS: The forerunners did pass the test, if not they wouldnt be alive. The flood would hunt them down.

You clearly didn't read the book since it was stated the forerunners failed before and would fail again, which they did.

No, they activated the rings because they were about to lose not for the safety of the galaxy. If they truly wanted that then they would have made amends with the humans.

How can the flood hunt them down if they don't know where they are? The ignorance you display is disgusting.

Ignorance ? lol.

If they would've wanted to win, they could've just cataloged themselfs and activate halos.
How could they ally humans ? It would take hundreds of years to educate them.

The flood can be in unlimited numbers, they could infect hundreds of galaxies at once, given the right number.
They could trace them, with the help of their allies precursors, who are much faster and stronger than the forerunners.

What in the world?

Genocide should never be the first option and that doesn't make them win seeing how they killed everything and didn't eradicate the flood, moron.

They cannot infect "Hundreds of galaxies at once".

Yet, the forerunners have been living in the galaxy the entire time and the flood haven't touched them.
