How about you just read the forerunner novels? and if anything Bioware ripped the protheans off the Forerunners since they were exactly like that.
Basically. The Protheans, initially believed to be the innocent and enlightened victims of fate, are revealed through the DLC to have forcefully subjugated the rest of galactic civilization.
Like the Forerunners.
And depending on how you look at it, the Rannoch Reaper's justification for doing what they do is almost word for word the Gravemind's justification. To end the chaos("sweetness") by synthesizing(infecting) all organic life so everyone can be reborn under a singular, peaceful consciousness and wisdom.
So OP, the Reapers were basically made like the Flood. If I recall, Gravemind was talking about the Flood's purposes as far back as Halo 3. He called the Flood the ultimate stage in biological evolution, just like how the Catalyst says Synthesis/Reapers is the ultimate evolutionary step.

And using logic
Stop trying to do this. There are some things people can't do and you're the perfect exemplar of that.
the forerunners did sacrafice both most of their remaining race (to hold of the flood)and the whole galaxy to survive (Activate halo and live after).
It's not about sacrifice, TO PASS THE TEST YOU HAVE TO SUCCUMB TO THE FLOOD. THE FORERUNNERS DID NOT DO THIS.
They didn't sacrifice themselves to hold off the Flood either, the ships controlled by Offensive Bias (the bulk of the fleet) were all automated seemingly so the Forerunners would have a chance to go into hiding.
The precursors, unlike forerunners are at full power.
They watched the whole forerunners-flood war.
They created the forerunners, they couldve done anything to them.
This just doesn't mean anything at all...
Ignoring the useless -blam!- storm going on here, Offensive's last reports in the terminals mention dying Forerunner warriors being thrown from destroyed friendly ships. He says that, as he uses them like fighters after the Halo Effect hits them, the Forerunner bodies inside liquify from shear G-Force. So they did sacrifice a large chunk of what was left of them.
I'm not saying he's right, just making a correction.
