... out of the five Bungie developed.

If you are on this forum then you probably like all of Bungie's Halo games like I do, but I'm sure there is one that you haven't found quite as good as the others ones. Which game was the worst in your opinion, and how could it have been better?

For me it was Halo 2. The levels were too linear for my liking and almost every one of them felt like half a level. For example The Outskirts and Metropolis should have been one level and then some other full levels could have been fitted into other parts of the game. I don't usually care about graphics all that much if the gameplay is good but out of all the Halo games Halo 2 definitely needed a lot more patching up. They also could have done a bit more with the Brutes in terms of gameplay, appearance and story (before the uprising)seeing as that was their first game. The Multiplayer wasn't bad, but it has definitely been overrated.

No, just no.

For me it was Reach. The campaign only had a handful of fulfilling levels, and many of the levels were get to point A to point B. AI was alright, but they made alot of stupid mistakes.

Halo 3 was awesome, and Halo 2's campaign had a strong sense of mystery and adventure. Halo CE had a great campaign, and also featured diverse levels.

ODST was genius.

From point A to B?
Chief defend this station by constantly moving forward down a single path until you find the bomb at the end of the path.
Chief follow another path to a bridge. There is only one way to get there.
Chief keep going forward until you find the Scarab. Don't worry there is only one path you can take to get there...again.
Arbiter move forward through these rooms until you find the heretic leader.
Arbiter do the same thing you did in the last mission.
ETC.

I also don't know what mystery you are talking about. Halo 1 had some mystery and I'd say the same for ODST, but definitely not Halo 2. You already know my opinion on fulfilling levels.

However, I'll give you this. The AI in Halo 2 do drive much better than the ones on Reach.

Those missions had meaning. In Reach, there's nothing to stop you from taking another path, but you have to take that EXACT path they tell you to.

In Halo 2 however, the athmosphere showed you that the covenant has attacked enforce, so you must go through these certain areas. Why do you think they made you go into space.

In Reach, nothing stops them being dropped anywhere in a Pelican. In Halo 2, there were very good reasons why you had to take those paths.

Arbiter missions: Heretic leader knows your after him, seals of parts of the facility. What do you expect, the Elites to break through Forerunner doors?

Chief Missions: You needed to take those paths because:
A. The covenant has denied you acsess to these areas (Thus the player having to around or outside the area).
B. Delta Halo has crumbled, and you can't fly over it because you need to remove Covenant ground troops.

Your argument is weak, and based only on your hatred of this brilliant game.

ODST

Never felt a connection to the ODSTs or Rookie and the Mombasa Streets level is just copy/paste in almost every area.

Reach. Bungie had little enthusiasm in creating another Halo game and it showed.

  • 03.19.2012 3:29 AM PDT

Halo 3.

In campaign terms because it was lacking majorly in story department, it's removal of Arby as a playable character, and the lack of a real last stand for Earth.

In multiplayer terms because of mediocre maps, equipment, constant BR spamming. Don't know, it just wasn't fun enough.

  • 03.19.2012 3:35 AM PDT

I haven't played all of them. I never bothered with CE. But out of the other four I'd say Halo 2.

I'm sorta a graphics whore and since I didn't actually get to play that much of ODST or Halo 2 and I don't remember the campaigns that much the only thing I have left to judge them on are the graphics really.

And I enjoyed the campaigns of Reach and Halo 3 to much to say it was one of them.

Edit: Actually I really should find a copy of Halo CE, Halo 2, and ODST. Really would like I say I've played all the campaigns and can actually remember them :/

Halo 2 is my favorite it had beautiful music, great gameplay and vast environments. Although there was linearity, you could always find new ways to engage the enemy.

Reach on the other hand is my least favorite. The music didn't feel as grand and overall didn't enhance the experience. The gameplay felt very stale and was lacking in certain areas. Also, gone were the vast environments in favor of enclosed spaces. I always found myself maneuvering past the enemies rather than fighting.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Are we talking about campaign wise?

If so, although I still really liked them, either Halo 3 or Reach.

  • 03.19.2012 8:48 AM PDT

An old friend.

On the contrary I believe Halo 2 was the best by far story and multiplayer wise.

There is a reason MLG still holds competitive Halo 2 Tournaments. The campaigns urban Earth settings seemed to have a great mash of futuristic with a dash of slums. The weapons were great and the pistol was just that; a pistol. It was a sidearm to be used for cqb and when you've got no alternative. It was NOT a primary weapon.

Add to that the Arbiter levels that expanded that side of the story well and you get one hell of a game.

Halo 2 is what I'd give anyone to play first. Halo Reach last.

------

Reach's campaign was physically just a bunch of multiplayer/firefight maps linked together by pathways. The story was forced and I felt no bond between any of these Spartans at all. Forced deaths. Stupid mistakes. Each mission had a problem.

To be honest the only part of Reach I liked was when you were on that beach headed to the Sabre. The drop pods impacting and elites popping out, crashing seraphs made it great to play and watch. could have been more! The games campaign was crap.

Halo Reach should have been Halo The Fall of Reach. It could have followed the untold story of Spartan III's that participated in the Fall of Reach and how their story crossed over Spartan II's Red Team and maybe even a few easter egg missions for the fans where you get to play as John on the station and meet Johnson. Maybe even defend the generators.

Halo reach sucks teh balls. It was vastly differnet from the traditional Halo gameplay because of the armor abilities and the characters and plot was the least interesting. Espcecially the fan service ending where you get to carry cortana. Woo hoo, so the whole point of the game was so I could be a messenger boy?

Also didn't give a flying -blam!- about the characters. ODST had way better character development. I don't know how they -blam!- up so bad after a game like that. If you can make me care about a robot man and a computer program, why can't you do it for 6 guys whose faces you actually get to see.

Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

Based on campaigns.

Halo CE (inb4flamewar). I dont see what the big deal is. Its totally overrated.

The vehicle physics are ridiculous

the story is repetitive and crappy,

level designs are boring

all weapons apart from the needler are completely OP

enemies ridiculously easy to kill

crappy flood

only two levels which are replayable (SC and AotCR) but Id still go play any mission from any other Halo game before them.

Yes, I know it was a good game at the time, but why people still love it to bits nowadays and put it above the other games is beyond me.

In order of worst to best for me (campaigns)

Halo CE (crap)
Halo 3 ODST (it was great until the half assed crappy ending)
Halo Reach (story sucks but its fun to play through specially on co op)
Halo 3 (great story and great gameplay but I was disappointed when we spent 5 missions heading towards the portal)
Halo 2 (fun gameplay, fantastic and deep story and storytelling, loved the missions and level designs)

Spartans don't DIE...They go to Hell & Regroup !!!

Reach is the worst game of them all. Bungie didn't apply much to this game. Copycat Camp, Firefight & MM levels. AA are way to noob friendly, bloom is for the COD fan, the spawning system is way out of wack, & don't even get me started with Arena.

Halo 2 was a good game until the Modders came along & destroyed Matchmaking.

Halo CE was groundbreaking on all fronts.

ODST was a nice change of pace but it would have been interesting if the matchmaking had ODST's instead.

The best game they made was Halo3. That is until all the 2nd accounters came along, but it was fun starting over & powning noobs. (so I can't complain to much about that) The ranking system needed work as it was easy to manipulate... I played Halo3 for 3 years strait, much longer than I've played any other Halo game, so I have to go with Halo3...

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Reach. But I attribute that more to the community. As good as Halo 4 might be, if the community isn't all that engaged, then it will fall flat quickly.

Reach. And it's not all of the dev team's fault there, considering the problems I'm having that don't attribute to any dev.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Reach.

I'm not going to bother explaining why. All the other Halo campaigns, including Halo Wars, were great.

Halo 3 is my favorite game of all time, period. That's multiplayer, single player, co-op campaign, everything. I -blam!- love halo 3 and I include ODST coz it has Halo 3 in the title =)

Halo 2

Campaign lacked development and had very poor level design. Not to mention a terrible ending that only ME3 could trump.

Multiplayer had a lot of flaws with host advantage and auto aimed sniping. Not a single map was above average and the game just wasn't fun.

Also, the graphics were quite awful and I think the way brutes looked was really dumb.

Sempiternal

It's got to be Halo 2 and Reach. Both games are fairly popular, but you can tell just on online numbers that Halo 3 blew them both away. Halo 1 wasn't really on fair ground since it didn't have online multiplayer, but it's obviously the better story than it's Xbox v1 counterpart. ODST was quite brilliant, but the ending was just average (felt like at least one of them should have died). Reach was kind of generic and predictable, while Halo 2 was just a complete disaster on all fronts from gameplay, presentation, and storyline.
