Worst: Reach
Least favorite: H3
Good: ODST
Best: CE, H2

As the Halo games got newer, they got more stricter, confined, and more scripted. They also killed immersion and tend to break our hopes. A lot of my projects in H3 were disappointments, even the successful ones. Furthermore, regarding Reach:

-the cp system hasn't changed
-campaign laden with false difficulty
-graphics over gameplay
-allied AI are repulsive

I plan on getting Reach anyway (at least there's a chance of me finding something new. Also, I want to try out custom firefight so I can get rid of shielded Jackals and fix Heroic and Legendary) since H3's campaign is pretty much excavated. Unlike H2, which is like a treasure chest and CE, which is like a Pharaoh's tomb. Both still have things to discover. Also, I didn't get the chance to explore ODST very much but I know that it still has something to offer. Likewise, ODST firefight.

Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

Based on campaigns.

Perhaps I should give a more detailed version of why CE is my least favourite

After playing Heroic, I found that not all weapons are OP and enemies are harder to kill. The main reason I don't like CE is that only two missions have replay quality

Pillar of Autumn- It's OK, but it's only good as a starter mission to kick it off. Half the mission is without a gun

Halo-Majority of the mission is just driving, not really my style of play

Truth and Reconciliation- Before entering the ship it is OK, then inside the ship it is so boring, tedious and one part is actually literally a maze. I always get lost whenever I play this mission.

343 guilty spark- Crappy flood, same thing over and over and over

The Library-Nothing but the crappy flood, boring and tedious

Two betrayals- Ruined by the crappy flood

Keyes-Pointless mission, the same place as Truth and Reconciliation and for pretty much the same reason. It was probably just there to add length to the campaign

Pillar of Autumn-Boring, stupid flood, constantly spawning sentinels

That's an exaggeration. Only 1/4 of the mission is without a gun.

Then try playing it on foot. They even have an achievement for that in Anniversary. There's snipers in various locations and even a firefight type battle where you first encounter marines.

Then try keeping your marines alive when you enter the ship. That's quite a challenge.

Suspense is lost if you've played subsequent Halo games before this one. I don't blame for you for not seeing the value. The later Halo games (with H2 and ODST as occasional exceptions) have lost all meaning and value.

True.

Two betrayals- Ruined by the crappy flood
Disagree. The Goldies are boss. Try fighting the Elites guarding the Banshees (1 Banshee at mission start, 2 Banshees at the end of the level) on this level. Quite engaging if you drop the sniper and rocket launcher.

Keyes-Pointless mission, the same place as Truth and Reconciliation and for pretty much the same reason. It was probably just there to add length to the campaign
You have a point. But it's also to reinforce the no man left behind theme. If you had played CE in it's beginnings, you would have broken your back trying to save the marines. That's because they are pleasant to be around despite their overall performance. Excellent dialogue, fun animations on the hog and when stuck with a grenade, and they do great in large numbers compared to H3 marines and Reach troopers. Marines you don't normally save even have special, hidden dialogue (I believe this is also in H2).

So you didn't find the grenade throwing Elites interesting?

I enjoyed every halo besides halo 1. Halo 1. I didn't like because of the coloring in it. I understand since it was 11 years ago

  • 03.31.2012 9:56 AM PDT

Halo 3 and Halo: Reach. Both had decent campaign and multiplayer, but the other campaigns (including ODST) and multiplayers were just great.

  • 03.31.2012 10:42 AM PDT

Worst: ODST

The campaign was just a boring one. You are using the same map structure over and over again, and half of it is at night. Ending was terrible.

Best:Halo 2

Great campaign, had very good plot with the covenant civil war thing. Also nice diversity of campaign levels, there is constantly a new environment. I personly loved the ending, but i played it when i had the halo 3 campaign disc unopened 2 feet away from me. If I had to wait for a few years to continue, I'm sure i would have been mad.

Best Multiplayer:Halo Reach

I don't care what people say, halo reach multiplayer is amazing. The forge is so much better than halo 3, there is a wide variety of game modes, and it is alot of fun with friends. Sure, things like armor lock can make me mad, but playing this with a group of friends is the most fun I've ever had on the Xbox 360

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

Worst: Reach
Best: Halo 2

Totally agree with Sierra about Halo 2, this game receives way too much praise for ruining many precedents that CE put in place. Duel weilding ruined weapon balance, wonky campaign difficulty made campaign stupid hard in some places, glitchy matchmaking and hackers/modders galore, and a bland copy paste campaign with the same bland purple corridors for miles shooting anything that moves, and the terrible cliff hanger ending that was put in just to justify another game. Way to use only 5 crayons in the whole color pallete for the game. Jackal snipers just ruined the whole "hey Im a big derp super soldier", and then youre insta killed shot in the foot by a sniper and you keel over dead. Gravemind, go back to little shop where you belong. Why do people like this game over CE or even Reach?

Halo: Reach

It started out boring, with Carter's voice actor monotoning, "repeat the Covenant are on Reach. It's the Winter Contingency. Where's my freaking paycheck" The gameplay was the same the whole time: "alright a few grunts and jackals, easy, oh great some elites now I have to actually think about what I'm doing." Your actions were pointless, everyone dies.

No characters develop, they just die instead and nobody ever gives a real dramatic performance except for Jorge, aka the only cool person in reach. Well maybe Emile, just because he made me laugh, but I still will never forgive him in the last level for taking 5 minutes to shotgun one grunt and for driving a mongoose like it might explode if it went over 5 mph.

There were some parts that were fun, but they soon became repetitive and tedious. Piloting a sabre was cool until it just became an easy system of shoot shoot fire missiles routine that left you wondering whether if it was really worth putting into the game. The falcon level where you had to shoot a banshee every 5 seconds and land on every stupid building in the whole city for no real reason was the most retarded and tedious level of all Halo.

It just seems like Bungie gave up. They killed all their characters. They were pissed at MS for making them make Reach as part of their contract and they just decided to make a few bucks without putting real emotion into their game. It's basically the equivalent of Indiana Jones: kingdom of crystal skull.

Forge was stupid, Halo 3 was better, now I know a lot of you love Forge World, but honestly, it was cool for me for like a month then just all the space seemed pointless to me. It's one vanilla texture and everyones maps eventually look the same. they dont even have forge on other levels which kinda made me mad. Alright they added some DLC with a little forge effort but the ingenuity and pure fun that people put into Halo 3 Forge super outweighed that of Halo Reach. Some of the best Halo experiences I had were on halo 3 Custom Games. Infection.

Where is everything that made previous Halos great? Where is the flood, where is the horror? Where is the hope? Where is the awesome main character who beats all odds and owns the covenant armada with a few catchy one-liners and a lot of guts?

Bungie traded emotion for some fancy graphics and armor permutations and abilities.

HUZRAH NU, KUL DO OD, WAH AN, BOK, LINGRAH VOD AHRK FIN TEY, BOZIK FUN DO FIN GEIN

To be honest, I liked all of them, but my Least Favorite was Reach. Now, many of the users here have already said what I was going to, so for the sake of your time, I won't be a broken record. Now, My favorite, I must say that Halo's 1-ODST I love all equally, in their own way, but Halo 3 is by far the superior game. At least, until the Halo PC community suddenly resurrects itself like a Phoenix rising from the ashes because CMT is back in business.

  • 04.02.2012 6:37 PM PDT

Reach. It was just to different for me.

  • 04.02.2012 6:40 PM PDT

For me it was definitely Halo: Reach. The campaign didn't "soak" into my mind well enough for me to actually appreciate and enjoy its entirety. The multiplayer simply didn't have as great of an impact as Halo 3's. And lastly, Firefight was outstandingly away from being anywhere good to Halo 3: ODST's original version of it.

It's strange to notice that throughout my analysis about the multiple errors in Reach, three different Halo titles (Combat Evolved for campaign, Halo 3 for multiplayer, and ODST for firefight) all surpass Halo: Reach's three core categories. It's pretty obvious that the "successor" to past Halo's didn't really turn out to cut it today.

ODST, the first half of Halo 3, and the first half of Halo 3.

Worst would probably be ODST, I disliked it, but

HALO 2 MASTER RACE.

Reach, without a doubt.

My least favorite Halo game by Bungie was Reach. I simply don't feel the game exciting. Too many problems in multiplayer, campaign was boring and the story was mediocre.

I personally disliked Reach the most. I just never really felt very connected with the team. Multiplayer somewhat redeems it for me however.

Sorry for the last mission I meant the Maw. Never seen these grenade throwing elites

As for doing Halo on foot, I probably don't have the patience. I mean, there's still so much plain and empty land with nothing to do. As for a firefight battle, sure it may be fun, but the magic of firefight is it never ends.

On Two betrayals I admit it is pretty fun to jump into all those elites with the shotgun at the beginning, but all the later battles are ruined by the OP flood surviving everything and the covenant getting wiped out by the slightest thing. I also dislike how the prominence of the flood gets in the way of trying to fight covenant. It's like, you have a snipe lined up on an elite, and suddenly a flood runs at you like 'OH HAI' and ruins your fun

Recently I discovered Truth and Reconciliation is alright to play but it takes an awful lot of memorising passageways and doors. I always kill all the marines so I don't have to bother opening that door for them lol

  • 04.03.2012 3:39 PM PDT

Halo 2, for me, is the worst. The diminished field of vision and lackluster campaign are mostly what killed it for me. All I needed for multiplayer were some maps and the exact same mechanics from the campaign. I think they went way overboard with all the fiddling they did with MP. Plus there was the anticipation and then what happened afterward.

I think I honestly enjoyed the hype, Frankie, and the community leading up to the release more than the game itself.

CE is by far my favorite.
