Firstly I was (and could still be, albeit a bit apprehensively now) looking forward to Halo 3, until I saw the trailer. I must say it disappointed me. It looked great when I first watched it but there were some issues that I thought it raised that were incongruous with the Halo universe that Bungie so expertly created. Lets have a look at some of these;
1. A very large, expensive covenant (more advanced race) ship is flown so close to a cliff as to risk crashing into it. What is that about? Did they get a grunt to drive it and turn all computer safeties off?!?!?!?
2. MC walks through a dust cloud and is obviuosly battle scarred and then gleams as if he himself is the sun?!?
3. MC's armour is shot up. Whats wrong with this you ask? It is only on his chest and mainly behind the side holding his gun that would've provided some protection. What has happened? is the new military practise to run around with your arms in the air shouting "Aim for the Chest"
4. MC's damage looks like projectile damage. The covenant use primarily energy weapons, except for the needler which explodes. Where are the burn marks? Has he suddenly taken to practicing on himself?
Okay I am going to stop now because anything else is unhelpful. Bungie have created an awesome product but the trailer seems to smack of showmanship without substance and it lacks the immersiveness of Halo CE because it has these inconsistencies that disallow the viewer to relate. Bungie still has time to make this the most incredible game ever, they just need to avoid doing a Star Wars and focusing on making it look pretty while missing the things which can make it great. The little details, the wit, the grit, the hope, the adrenaline.
I believe Bungie can make it great, Go Bungie. The reason I write is because you have done so well previously, if you had sucked I probably wouldn't have bothered, but then I doubt the game would have been a best seller. Bring on a great Halo 3.
