Subject: Why Do UNSC Guns Have Electronic Ammo Displays?

Come to think of it, using transparent magazines would be a lot more practical.

We’re flawed because we want so much more. We’re ruined because we get these things and wish for what we had.

Why do Spartans float?

Enhanced gameplay opposed to realism. ... Mabey they'll choose to do both now.

Not when you can't see the magazine because it's inside the gun. It would also be a hassle with bulpup design.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Because they can.

"I do not aim with my hand; he who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I aim with my eye.
I do not shoot with my hand; he who shoots with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I shoot with my mind.
I do not kill with my gun; he who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father.
I kill with my heart."

Come to think of it,it would be more practical to have neither of those and just have the gun scream out how much ammo is left with each shot fired.

How does that matter when they are inside the gun?

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Because it's a quicker way to check on ammo than waiting to empty the clip or actually ejecting it too see exactly how much are left.

Plus, transparent magazines wouldn't be very practical. Who knows what material they would be composed of. They could be easily rendered useless by kinetic or plasma damage.

most likely. also, it gives the player a more "Futureistic" feel while playing the game.

SC = Supreme Commander/Supreme Canadian.

De Facto leader of the military of the APE (Allied Planets Empire).

Coup = Admiral Asskicker, ZPM hive ship

Because it's a lot more effective than counting the shots that remain normally. Real life battles are not fought like CoD, you don't have a HUD to show how many bullets you have left in the magazine.

US military researchers are working on an operational/easily mass produced model of these right now.

Straight from the wandering mind of Watson 203

The idea behind the electronic visor ammunition display is that the Mjolnir and ODST Armour gauntlets have special parts on them that link up when contact is made with a weapon and establish an interface between the armour and weapon, telling the wearer of the armour the remaining ammunition and/or how close to overheating it is.
This also explains why the pistol has a x2 magnification in CE, Reach and ODST. It's a smart scope that, when contact is made between the gauntlets and pistol, links up with the Visor and uses the VISR technology to establish a scope-esque view.

There was a comment made about John-117's gauntlets in a screenshot of the game or from the first look trailer.
There's a noticeable difference on one of his fingers which, I believe is what I spoke of earlier, just more defined and noticeable than on other Mjolnir gauntlets.

If you build it, I can destroy it.

They have bullet counters you can get for your gun in real life. And its a heck of a lot better than guess at your bullet count. The expensive ones can be set to beep at your mag round limit, or reset on a reload (push button).

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

Because it is entirely logical. Why wouldn't a soldier want to know how much ammo is in their gun?

Why does the BR85HB have a bright glowing ammo counter and scope? To me a big glowing light is a bad feature for a weapon, despite the Convenant loving it so much.

I suppose the glowing display kind of matches the design of the whole gun. All flash no substance.

Ammo counters are a lot more practical than a clear magazine in my opinion....especially with the types of weapons the UNSC utilizes. And since the magazine slides all the way into the mag well transparency is pretty pointless.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

The Black Chapter!

Troops currently in Afghan have magazines with transparent slits (polycarbonate, IICR) that allow ammo state to be checked.

  • 03.21.2012 4:33 AM PDT

<(-_-)> Teh mokey is not amused

Lets you know if the gun needs reloading without removing the magazine. The first thing you do when you pick up a rifle is to check if it's loaded.

About me: I am a vicious wolf of a man.

But really am sweet at heart. =)

For the record, to those saying a transparent magazine is impractical on bullpup weapons.

Both the Steyr AUG, and the FAMAS use transparent magazines, or at least ones with slits in them to check ammunition.

And in the end, transparent magazines are lighter than solid ones, thus making them easier, to huff around. If you manage to break a magazine it means your weapon has been run over by a truck.

And electronic desplays are pointless, completely. What about if you are sneaking into enemy territory at night and you have a bright blue glow in your face. EVen if you turn it off, it still might be nudged back on. Completely pointless.
