Subject: Why Do UNSC Guns Have Electronic Ammo Displays?

Straight from the wandering mind of Watson 203

And electronic desplays are pointless, completely. What about if you are sneaking into enemy territory at night and you have a bright blue glow in your face. EVen if you turn it off, it still might be nudged back on. Completely pointless.

I imagine they'd use uni-directional light and/or polarising filters for eyepieces in modern day military technology. That way any light emitted from it would only be the light that reflected off the face of the person wearing it.
Furthermore, if any soldiers are doing a night-op then I imagine they'd be wearing dark clothing/dark face paint, further reducing the likelihood of being seen because dark colours absorb more and reflect less light.

If you have transparent magazines it wouldn't matter, they go inside the gun. They would also have to be made of hard plastic, plastic isn't that reliable compared to metal.

Also, the ammo counter helps them check on their ammo count without having to keep track or waiting for it to run out. Some ammo counters also have a compass on them that helps the user with directions. Basically it's more efficient.

"Halo! Its divine wind will rush through the stars, propelling all who are worthy along the path to salvation."

The Assault Rifle's display doesn't really shoot that much light, neither does the Battle Rifle's. In a Sneaking Ops, ODSTs would use Silenced SMGs, no displays.

So we're going to limit highly trained special forces to using a single weapon, that fires a pitifully weak round that is laughable on shields.

Why not just have the display be optional? Preferably on a forward mounted rail, for CQC situations? Again, the bright display is NOT good for night ops.

So its pitch black, and you move your rifle up as you're low crawling, boom, you just lost your night vision in that eye and are blinded for 15 minutes as you regain vision.

And clear magazines are useful because they do, in fact, stick out of the gun, at least a bit, which is where the transparent part is.

If a magazine slid all the way into an assault rifle you wouldn't be able to get it out... In combat, its important to be accurate, but you aren't counting every single shot.

Heck, upon engaging the enemy in Afghanistan US Army squads will frequently saturate an area with squad firing and 40mm frag rounds.

I love Halo and video games. I started a business called "70MGame", I setup LAN events, tournaments, and Midnight Launch Events. Check us out in the link below.

I grew up playing Halo CE and have never stopped loving it since. I have one of the biggest Halo collections you will ever see with the crown jewels being life size statues of Master Chief, Kat, and Emile. Im hoping to have the entire Noble Team soon as well as other Halo statues

One would think considering you go through clips of ammo like nothing when going through campaign

love the arguments people are making about a video game having an electronic counter on the weapon. Its a game. Most have some form of ammo counter built into the hud. Halo is in no way a realistic game from a modern standpoint so don't argue like it is

We're never what we invent or intend.

Come to think of it, using transparent magazines would be a lot more practical.

Two, four six, eight, ten, twelve... thirteen? No, fourteen. Wait, MA5C magazines are double-stacked, so that's... twenty-eight? But... what if the last spot on the top only has one bullet in it? Here, let me flip the gun over so I can see the other si-*THWACKsplatter*

Great idea.

Why not use both? The transparent mags might be helpful during a emp or stealth mission.

Now how would that work? The magazine fits completely inside the well thus covering your so called transparent magazine.

Friends before pixels.

Because in Halo, the magazine is basically totally inside the gun.

Enhanced gameplay opposed to realism. ... Mabey they'll choose to do both now.
I just wanna know... when can the Chief retire and marry cortana like he's supposed to once he saves everyone and the forrunners give her a human body. Can we do it tommorow?

lol that'd be cool. Then we could play Sims with MC.

*facepalm*

I like how you're comparing gameplay to real life....

I mean, damn, then sniper rifles are useless because on Legendary grunts can take more than one shot sometimes! BLASPHEMY.

What im saying is in combat you dont have to know EXACTLY how many freaking rounds you have in your gun. A decent idea is all you need considering it is actually easier to reload from a half empty mag rather than a dry one.

And that a bright ass screen on your gun can give you away at night or at the least blind you if you make the wrong move with it.

Have you guys ever looked at a digital watch? They don't glow, but they give you a readout on it. But when you want it to glow, hit the light button on it so you can see it for 3 seconds at night. That's how I'd make the ammo readout.

Come to think of it,it would be more practical to have neither of those and just have the gun scream out how much ammo is left with each shot fired.

"THIRTY ONE!!! THIRTY!!! TWENTYNINE!!! TWENTYEIGHT!!!!"ect.

Thank you. Thank you so very much.

  • 03.27.2012 10:53 PM PDT

It looks cool but is fairly unpractical I agree with

Posted by: Gottalovec4
For the record, to those saying a transparent magazine is impractical on bullpup weapons.

Both the Steyr AUG, and the FAMAS use transparent magazines, or at least ones with slits in them to check ammunition.

And in the end, transparent magazines are lighter than solid ones, thus making them easier, to huff around. If you manage to break a magazine it means your weapon has been run over by a truck.

And electronic desplays are pointless, completely. What about if you are sneaking into enemy territory at night and you have a bright blue glow in your face. EVen if you turn it off, it still might be nudged back on. Completely pointless.

Another issue would be if an EMP occured or some other power issue, Your guns ammo counter would be rendered useless..
