>But it can be beat

Good luck making a ban tool on any site that can't be beat. Oh wait, that's impossible, silly. :D
You don't need "the perfect system", you just need to change things up a bit every so often so there's not enough time to think of ways around it.

I don't think I understand what you mean. The only extra step we can really take is implement IP bans, and, as everyone is sure to tell you after I post this, that's certainly not 100% effective. It can be worked around easily, although I maintain that the majority of the people who are banned will be too lazy to reset their modem every time one of their alts gets banned.
That's like taking a nuke to a fistfight....all we need is to find another means of keeping track of each account. Maybe we could make use of the member ID or something.

How could you make use of a member ID when someone could make an alt which has a member ID with a number hundreds of thousands away from the original banned member's ID?

I'm just throwing ideas around....never said they were good or complete.

doesn't the mods do the banning not the system?

Next step, self moderation.

It is possible to commit no errors and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.

Cheeto is the only one among you that doesn't suck.

I'm sure that would go horribly awry.

I'd like to see a lottery system implemented, a BanHammer 2.0 if you will. When you receive a ban, you can effectively "spin the wheel", "role the dice", "pull the trigger", take a chance, you will receive new moderation, but you will have to keep it.

Get a 3 day, tango with banhammer 2.0, get a perma. Get a 1 month, tango with banhammer 2.0, get a 3 day, get a perma, tango with banhammer 2.0 get off scott free.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

Achronos I believe refuses to use IP bans....I forget what he said about it though.

I think I recall he said something about an incident where he accidentally IP banned a college's network so no one in the whole building could sign in. That is why he stopped doing it, if I recall correctly. Sorry if I'm wrong Achronos!

Even if that was in jest, it's still a good idea.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

The ol' ban hammer does its job when it's needed, what ever is not broken doesn't need to be fixed.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

I really don't understand how you can upgrade the banhammer. I think the formula is pretty spot on right now.

Indeed. For those of you that spend energy by "tryng to beat the ban hammer", you are just wasting your time. Time that could be spent contributing to a private group or to the community at large in a possitive way.

But you can beat it.

Shotgun v Banhammer? Ban hammer never misses, and if it does, it has the characteristics of a boomerang, it always gets you...
I'm proof it can be beat. Though I'm not dodging a ban issued as punishment. It was at my request.
Alt accounting isn't beating it, it's exploiting it.

If you were banned just now on that account, and hopped onto another account, the account you just hopped to would be banned.

The IP gets logged. Obviously, you could use a proxy or TOR if you really want to get into the site, but it's not a fault of the Banhammer.

It's a fault of the internet and how easy ban evasion is.

It is broken and does need to be fixed! I work at a group home with mentally disabled individuals. I though that I was safe playing on my profile and have my individual sign in as a guest and play because he gets 0 kills almost every game, but he loves to play. I already got banned once with him when he signed in on his profile and we played together. I understand having that safeguard to stop people from credit boosting, but now I got banned again even though I was getting plenty of kills and he got no kills with a guest account. How is that fair?! There was no boosting to be had! He was playing with a guest account! They really need to fix this!!
