I read part of Contact Harvest but was unable to finish it. In books that include Master Chief, how much dialog is used by him? About the same as the games; maybe more? Just curious.

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

The books really bring out the humanity in him, there is a lot more dialogue than in game. I recommend reading the books, they are great.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

The books really flesh him out.

The only game to even remotely get close to the level of the novels is Halo 3, where Chief shows a lot of humanity and emotions we hadn't seen in him before.

Master Chief doesn't talk a lot per say.

But since your inside his head you see how he feels, thinks, and reacts to different things.

Something you don't see in the games.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

There's a lot more dialogue in the books. They do a lot of good to show that John actually has a personality, and isn't a mindless killing machine.

Show Faith/Defy Fate

Some of Chief's and Cortana's best moments are in the novels.

Don't let Glasslands be the start of your journey into the Halo Lore... that book was horrid.

They need to at least pick authors who are, you know... at least willing to research the halo Lore before writing something.

Life is too short to spend it putting down others. Make the best of it.

The books really are perfect if read with the Halo games, Fall of Reach, The Flood, and more just further give you an insight into how John became Master Chief. I personally really liked the first introduction to John when he is a kid and how he grows into a Spartan.

They just go missing in action.

It's brings more depth to him as a character compared to the games, there's much more dialogue.

I just finished that book 3 days ago and while it was nice to have some closure on what happened to Dr. Halsey, Mendez and the Spartans it did have a lot of plot holes that went against the Halo canon.

*Spoiler Alert!*

Also they spent half of the book looking for a light switch.

I found it interesting to read the Fall of Reach and play through the campaign of Halo Reach on legendary at the same time. Whenever I wasn't on the xbox, I was reading the book. Gave me two different views of what was happening on Reach. When I would play the campaign, I would think of the far off battles of the Spartan IIs.

I just did the same thing with Halo CEA and The Flood, awesome experience, I recommend it to all!

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

He talks, but what he says is pretty simple. He thinks more.

He features prominently in Fall of Reach, First Strike, and The Flood. There are also several stories with the Chief in Halo: Evolutions.

Name's WIlliam,

For the love of God it's pronounced mister-shag, not misters-hag.

You should start with Halo Evolutions it has a really good story with Chief in it but most of the stories do not involve the Spartan II. It would be a good starting point to see how you feel about reading his stories :)

I've only read the books up to Contact Harvest, so I haven't read all of them, but this was by far my favorite of the books I did read.
