Subject: How do you feel about Master Chief?

Personally, I liked the charcter, but felt he was very one-dimensional.

Typical muted Hero.

But not that Master Chief's story is being expanded after Halo 3, I'm kind of excited to be playing as him again. I'm really looking forward in seeing how 343 shows his more human side, about his past, and fears of the new enemies (whatever they may be...)

So Halo fans, what about you?

overrated.

It's about time someone said it. There are so many better characters in the Halo-verse than Master Chief. (In terms of skill and character development.)

I like all of the characters in the forerunner novels better. I think i have to rotate between The Didact, Chakas, Bornstellar, Medicant bias, The primordial, The librarian, the Gravemind, and the bias' as my favorite character.

Show Faith/Defy Fate

Meh. He's alright. I honestly liked Blue Team a lot better when he was with them for some reason.

Did you read the books? The books are a good way to get connected with him.

That was how I used to feel.

I haven't read any of the books, so apart from the information we got from Halo 1-3, I didn't really feel connected to him either.

But I'm intrigued to be playing as him again, and am really hoping 343 expand on his history and the character itself.

I like Linda the best. She doesn't say much, but I always smile when she does talk. I wish she had a lot more face time. I was happy when she and Blue returned in Glasslands....not so happy when she barely said a line.

Straight from the wandering mind of Watson 203

I think this. Somebody had to do it.

OT; I think he's a good character, but not my favourite. I think my favourites are probably Kurt Ambrose/Kurt-051, Gage Yevgenny from "Dirt" and Jacob Keyes.

Chakas is the -blam!-! I finished Cryptum and started chapter 1 of Primordium today. Chakas is my favourite :D

I have mixed feelings about MC. I think he is a badass but then again, I really don't mind if a different story from the Halo Universe is told.

If you had read the books, you would have seen a different side of him.

  • 03.22.2012 6:46 PM PDT

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

Perfect for what he was in the Halo Trilogy. A silent protagonist. Now, I'm not so sure.

In the books they did flesh his character out a little bit but there wasn't much character to him to be honest. When you're a super-solider who fights pretty much all his life, theres no need for him to socialize and interact with others apart from getting his mission done. Therefore it fits perfectly that he is a hollow drone.

Kurt was a Spartan that had character, but that fit in with his personality as he was always known to be different in that department for a Spartan. I feel as if 343i wants to turn cheif into Kurt. By giving him real character development. However Cheif can't be Kurt, it would just be out of character.

In a nutshell he is over-rated as a character, but that's exactly how he should be. How he was portrayed in 1-3.

The only thing he really cares about is his fellow S-IIs, Halsey, Mendez, Cortana, Sergeant Johnson and getting the job done.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I always loved Chief's character, but not just because he's the hero. I don't know what it is, but there's something about him that people find likable. I think it's mostly from the books I've read, but if he wasn't the main character, he'd still be one of my favorites. Like James-005.

I personally think there was just as much character in the Master Chief as there was in Sergeant Johnson. However, it was hidden. He wasn't quite as humorous- not a lot of one-liners or anything- but everything else was there. He was the leader of the Spartans, the greatest soldiers of mankind. He had to mantain an extent of seriousnous. He couldn't show all of his emotions like everyone else. He had to be and look like he was in control of humanities greatest super-soldiers and weapons. During Halo 1 he thought all of his fellow Spartans had died. He was the last one left. He had to be tough. His voice wouldn't reflect his sadness, but instead his strength. From the beginning of Halo 2 he wouldn't ever see another Spartan II again (so far). The Master Chief has seen and done more than pretty much every person in the Halo games so far (possibly not including Johnson). I think there is a lot to him that people don't consider.

Since you mentioned Kurt there was something I was wondering about. I can't remember exactly what Kurt was like, but he was suppose to be one-of-a-kind and very different from the other SIIs, yet he reminds me A LOT of Jorge. What's with that?

Belive in a Hero.

Maybe your right or maybe your wrong, the Master Chief isn't just a character he's a symbol and icon to the Halo trilogy.

Exactly thank you for pointing that out,I couldn't have put it better myself.

lol!

Master chief actually has a personality. Bungie doesn't show his personality because it make the player feel more into the game.

  • 03.23.2012 6:00 PM PDT

In the books he seems to be dedicated to the mission at hand, but shows his emotions in his loss of friends, he shows a kind of love or compassion to Cortana and Dr. Halsey, nd has a strong brotherhood with the other Spartans.
Overall: he shows the emotions of a man with the actions of a Spartan

  • 03.23.2012 6:07 PM PDT

yeah idk bout you guys but...masterchief always had a thing to him that every character didnt have....i think that all the other characters had certain things to them that in contrast to masterchief made him cooler. For instance there were characters that talked too!! much and said corny one liners or there were very quite and characters that didnt do much, but master chief was in between which i liked

not too bitter not too sweat

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Overrated as some already said...I've never liked him and before you begin with "read the books and you will feel different" I already did, made me feel even worse about the character.
