Subject: Bungie Help/Hint Line?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I was looking at some of my stuff and I found this.

Myth: The Fallen Lords Booklet
The Bungie helpline

It's just $0.95/minute for automated hints, or $1.35/minute to
speak to a live operator from 9:30am - 5:30pm CST, Monday through Friday.

I think that is very interesting, Bungie used to sell hints to people who called them (I assume this was operating in their studio unless it was outsourced).

But thinking back to the community today, would you ever use a help line like that to get help for a Bungie game? I would assume this would be obsolete with all the youtube help videos.
What do you think of this?

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

1.) Hint line

2.) Stole the idea for Nintendo.

Well it is from 1997, lol.

I just came across this in a Bungie game booklet and I was "curious" to say the least. 95 cents just for AUTOMATED hints, not even talking to someone. It is very interesting they had that and a charge for it.

I wonder how many people called for hints.

I think that was Atari.

The fact that it is in CST rather than PST, is quite odd considering Bungie isn't even in CST.

  • 03.21.2012 12:30 PM PDT

It might have been helpful at the time, but it would be redundant if they decided to bring it back today.

Is Chicago CST? It could be from back when they were based there.

For Carnage, Apply Within.

I have returned from the Untamed Lands. MOAP is dead.

Myth II manual? :D

I could of really used that hint line many years ago when I was stuck on Into The Breach. Took me a week to realize you weren't suppose to attack with the Dwarf.

They would get a lot of $$$, but you had to be 18 or have Parental consent. But I have never heard of a payed helpline for a game before.

Or outsourcing.

Even I, as a fan, find it hard to believe for a dollar a minute I could have spoken with a grizzled ancient.

Pay $7.77 to speak with Jason Jones or $10.00 for Marty to play Flute music for 30 seconds.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

1-900 help lines/hint lines were standard practice from the 1980s through the late 90s, until internet usage became extremely widespread and these help lines/hint lines went obsolete.

This is not outrageous, nor is it uncommon.

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

It would be useless nowadays. There is something called... Youtube...

I can imagine, now it is really easy to get helpful hints and tips. I wonder what the future will hold with things like the strategy guide.

We can already see the game's booklet is dying off to more in-game helpful hints.

I wonder if this will affect future Bungie titles booklets and guides with the ever expanding internet and more and more people using youtube for tips.
