Key

If you misspell a word containing less than or equal to 5 letters (unless it's another language, a name, or something that's understandable) I will not read your post.

Just because it's the internet doesn't mean you have to converse like you're a 13 year old sending a text. Not everything has to be shorthand just because it can be.

And to those who will obviously say "OMG UR TAKING BNET SO SERIOUSLY":

No. I'm not. I'm requesting of you to make reading your post easier on the eyes for those who are unlike me and will not immediately disregard it and, even if you haven't (in which case you shouldn't be here), make you look as if you passed the 4th grade with at least a check-plus.

edit: For the record, if I'm attempting to have a conversation (or argument) with someone who clearly doesn't know what they're talking about (for the hell of it) and they're using improper grammar, punctuation, etc. I can overlook it. Also using lower-case i's and not capitalizing the first letter of a sentence is a minor offense in my book as well. (I'll think less of your post because you couldn't be bothered to grammar-it-up properly, but I will still read and comprehend it as I would any other.)

Bad spelling and grammar make me stop reading a post. I'm on B.net for fun, so if I have to exert myself to decipher your point I'll just move onto another topic.

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

Grammar, spelling, and puntuation are the primary things to go by on this site. Poorly typed out sentences can be looked at by some people as a reflection on how the person acts in real life (Note: I'm talking about the really difficult stuff to read). I don't believe in that completely, but it's understandable if others do.

And as always, SEND ME A PM. Please. Or really bad things will happen to you.

I'll read the post as long as it reads fluently. If the typos impede the flow of the post I usually click out.

Grammar and spelling are important to me when I read. I don't like to see errors because I know they're wrong. It doesn't particularly bother me when people make small mistakes or shorten things down for convenience, but I do not like seeing shorthand or errors just out of pure laziness.

I before e except after c? That's weird. I'm sure science could prove it wrong, though.

While one browses Bungie.net, you may find many walls of text, or the person who types like he is texting.

Is spelling words correctly something that makes you read a post?

Is grammar another thing that makes you read the post?

And lastly, is a knowledge of the subject something important?

Are all of these attributes important for a good post?

*NEW QUESTION*

Is the use of memes in the wrong way another thing that turns you off of a thread?

Oh your such a troll! FIAL!!!

Friends before pixels.

Personally, if someone is posting like a damn teenage girl, I automatically assume that if they can't even keep decent grammar for the sake of their post, they don't care. I don't deal with people who don't care.

Example of what I'm talking about:

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

It's not that I don't read posts with improper grammar so much as I generally have a higher regard for people who consistently show care in their composition.

Per Audacia Ad Astra

Is spelling words correctly something that makes you read a post?
>Zero spelling errors is preferable.
Is grammar another thing that makes you read the post?
>Zero grammar errors is preferable.
And lastly, is a knowledge of the subject something important?
>Yes, obviously. If the OP has no idea what they are talking about, they may fail to deliver the point they are trying to make - and quite possibly seem to be discussing something completely different.
Are all of these attributes important for a good post?
>Yes.
Is the use of memes in the wrong way another thing that turns you off of a thread?
>False usage of memes makes the user look unintelligent, or just unfamiliar with memes. I still comply with reading the posts, though.

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

I stopped reading where you only mentioned he, not the correct form, he or she. He or she is the pronoun you use when you don't specify who you are talking about beforehand.

  • 03.21.2012 5:14 PM PDT

Everything you said is what turns everyone off a thread, especially wrongly used memes. Kind of pointless asking, really

  • 03.21.2012 5:30 PM PDT

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

Funny thing about the title.

There are more words that are exceptions to that rule than there are words that follow the rule.

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

Species
Being
(Two words that don't obey that rule.)

Now onto your actually discussion at hand. If the person types like they are texting (I usually text with good spelling and grammar, but I know what you're talking about), I tend not to take what they are saying seriously. I'll still read the post, maybe skim it.

Knowledge on the subject is important I would say, and I would prefer what I'm reading to be spelled correctly.

But it all depends on the subject matter I guess. If it's something I'm interested in reading, I'll read it regardless of the spelling and grammar. Unless it's totally -blam!- up beyond belief.

Bypassing the profanity filter is a bad idea. And people who are very stringent with grammar aren't hardasses about it.
