The Poll "question" is did this method work for you, and you veterans to decide if you think this will work

The "answers" labelled Veterans are how the vets can vote on how they think this method will work.

The "answers" labeled Tester are how those who want to try the Practice and see if it works.

THIS IS A LONG POST IF YOU ACTUALLY HAVE A LIFE YOUR GONNA WANNA MOVE ON, ITS ALSO PROBABLY SOMETHING YOU YOURSELF HAVE ALREADY THOUGHT OF,BUT AT BUT AT LEAST YOU CAN HAVE FUN INSULTING ME! GO AHEAD, REALLY, I PROMISE NO ONE WILL GET REPORTED FOR WHAT THEY SAY TO ME, not by me anyway

_____________________________________________________________ _

However, i am posting this for those few and far between people who for some reason have yet to think of this, what I call...

HALO PRACTICE MODE

This is done for my fellow pathetic players who need some help playing Halo Matchmaking, or you mighty veterans who think this may help you kick even more colossal ass in the future, doubt it, but that is up to you.

First this is done in Firefight, just a local Firefight, not Xbox Live.

First Create a custom Firefight game with your shields invulnerable(Wait for the reason), select Game Options at the Firefight Main Menu and it should be pretty easy to find what you need to do from there. From there, set the skill to Heroic (or Legendary, but Heroic works better at the beginning) and then change all the waves nothing but Elites, Generals, Spec OPS (the SO Elites help with neutralizing the imbalance of Active Camouflage by teaching you to spot its invisible traces easier)

Most importantly however are the Heretics, Heretics use Human Weapons such as the Heretic Snipers and Heretic Heavy Weapons. This will help because, players generally prefer Human weapons and you are most of the time going to be fight people using human weapons, though make sure you don't all Heretics cause you still need to learn how fight Covenant weapons, as players using this is not real rare just not as common as human weapons.

Then set your Loadouts to whatever weapons you feel you need the most practice with, for me it was the Assault Rifle, or the Sniper Rifle and just keep fighting elites improving my marksmanship and learning the best way to attack a shielded opponent with that particular weapon.

Once you feel you have gotten the marksmanship skill down well enough, remove the invulnerability of your shields, and turn the Catch skull on in all waves, so you can learn NOT TO GET HIT, (which is my biggest flaw in MM, which by the way is the main reason my BPR is so low, I still need to work on it, but I am getting better, bit by bit, so do not give up).

Also remember that AI controlled Elites don't fight the same way a human controlled Spartan will and they are la bit taller so you need to compensate by lowering your gun just a bit if aiming for the head, when fighting actual players, but they are very similar in how to remove their shields, and they will fire just as much as human players will if not more, (Especially on Legendary) so learning to dodge them rather than players online make make you dodge things the other players cannot even do, which is ALWAYS a good thing.

The best thing about this Practice mode is you can do it by yourself as long as you want and surprise your friends with your improvement.

(Damn, I sound like an Infomercial don't I? BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!! CALL NOW AND YOU GET THIS KNIFE WITH REAL STAG HORN HANDLE, I know what you are thinking folks, but no not the cheaper Manticore horn, but genuine STAG HORN, I've got the specs right here and I'll tell you what, this is the real deal. )

Kudos to whoever gets that "little joke"

Double Kudo's to anyone who actually READ all THAT. I would not have read the first two paragraphs if I had come across another person's thread with an OP this long,

2x Kudo's to you young man (or woman), even if you just read it so you can insult me better, Kudo's to you, you are one brave little toaster.

Thank you, and I hope this helps anyone out there who is struggling.

P.S. this actually DID help me, I was that pathetic, look at me now, now try to image how I was THEN.

*shudders*

Dark Days... Dark Days indeed.

Anyway, other players who also feel pathetic and are too embarrassed to try and improve by playing MM, like myself, can use this without feeling self-conscious about their lack of skill.

P.S.S. If you get lost trying to create this game just post here and i will tell you where everything is in the Firefight Game Options menu, Remember not a single player on this forum knew what the h*** they were doing when they first played Halo either, so do not feel worried about posting here.

My stats

I'm retired

This will only help you aim and dodge nades.

Very very small parts of being a good player.

  • 03.21.2012 3:37 PM PDT

But those are the two most basic skills that you really need in order to achieve victories, cause without those, the others don't really help you. You can be with the best Halo player ever as your teammate you can stick to him like glue, you can be armed with Energy Sword and he Rocket Launcher, but if you can't hit the bad guy, or avoid his/her attacks, well....

The lack of basic skills is my biggest problem.

Knowing how to play, where to go, weapon locations, when to fire, spawn points, opponent player skill, teamwork, when to use certain weapons, when not to use certain weapons, how to throw grenades, how to drive the the various vehicles, and many other skills are also required, I know that, but none them mean squat if you keep missing your opponent and getting killed in 2 two seconds, or stuck with a blue spider.

So improving the basic helps you with all those other skills you need to be a good player.

I'm sure it might help for some people but I don't see why anyone would choose this over regular matchmaking.

Even if they're "too hard" you'd get better by playing with harder people.

  • 03.21.2012 4:58 PM PDT

I did it cause quite frankly I preferred that people not KNOW I sucked, so I found a way to practice and get a better without my lack of skill being obvious to the people I play, or hurt my teammates.

I wanted to make a good first impression, which I couldn't do without getting better first, so this method came to be.

Maybe it could help those that, are having trouble, doubt anyone who needs it will see it, as they probably don't know this Forum exists, but its here in case they do.

..Jon Snow

But Really, It's highly probable your right. that's why a including a place for experienced players to post if they think this method has merit or not. And You guys are saying it probably won't do that much in the way of help.

I knew it would probably get "no"s from the Vets, when someone asks a question like that, you got to be prepared for a mostly negative response.

I appreciate the honesty, thank you.

Like I have said in other threads I mostly play Infection, so I don't use the AR very often, and considering it is the weapon I have in my hands most of the time (besides the magnum) I cam across enemies on slayer, i felt I needed to improve my skill with it.

Well for starters, playing something else besides Infection and Solo Campaign might help.

TIMING!!!

I have started to branch out, BTB and Invasion things that don't hurt my team that much.

Played my first Team Slayer game in like 4 months a couple of days ago.

Going to keep trying the other game types, besides Infection, out and improve myself some more.

This training gave me just enough skill to not totally embarrass myself when playing MM.

What is this

You should get better naturally by competing with people who are better than you. It's kinda difficult in Reach though because the only ranked playlist is Arena and it blows. MLG is another playlist but you don't match people around your skill level so it's hard to get better when you're matching good kids one game then morons the next.

I didn't read it but it was about firefight and getting better so I voted for the first option.

  • 03.21.2012 5:22 PM PDT

Honestly though you should focus on getting comfortable with the DMR.

One of the most important things is being able to out DMR your opponent in a duel.

Should play more Team Slayer. I know your a bit scared/embarassed, whatever. It doesn't really matter. I had this guy in one of my MLG games earlier who just bought the game. I facepalmed so hard but he kept saying he was just trying to get better and whatnot so I couldn't really blame him.

Positioning is like 10 times more important than your aim.

That's why I have a higher K/D in MLG and Snipers than you do yet, you have tons and tons more games played than I do.

Plus, I never said it was THE most important thing. I simply stated it was important, and it definitely is and can be practiced outside of Live Matchmaking.

Aim is still pretty important, but being able to out-BR someone isn't a requirement to be good. You just have to have a good idea of where you should be (positioning), when to challenge, when to back down, how to stay alive, predicting enemy movements, etc. Those are all more important than being able to outshoot someone.

We're strictly talking about MLG because snipers isn't considered a real playlist. It's easy to maintain a high k/d in a playlist when you've played less than 30 games in it.

You also win only 66% of your MLG games, which kinda means you suck. :/

Or, I don't play with friends. I don't have less than 30 games in MLG...

Plus, I just started playing yesterday. So, please.

Then don't go stat-checking people when your stats don't even hold up.

You are editing in an awful lot of excuses. Why is that?
