For all the gamers out there who actually don't play Halo 2 anymore because of the glitchers, modders, lagers, standybyers, and the overall cheating and abuse of the game we used to love to play; heres your opportunity to tell bungie they need to drop the system and go with one that promotes teamwork and not individual ranking.

A great example for bungie to follow is EA's Batttlefield 2 Medals system. Yes there are a very few players you'll see in game just trying to get a medal but there are a wide variety of medals you must obtain through actual teamwork, not loan gunnman tactics. And although I do know EA is a hungry monster and not exactly the company I like to praise I do think thier medals system is a good thing.

So, for all those out there that got Halo 2 at launch, played it and watched it turn into a babysitting, cheating, modding, glitching, standbying, nightmare for people who wanted to just play, game, heres your opportunity to reach out and touch bungie.

Add to this message board! Use it! MESSAGE UP! AND GAME ON!

Whats your rank becuase everytime I go into a matchmaking game, big team or what not I can't go two games without some lager tring to cheat. Whats that tell you. The time you spend playing the game shouldn't be time spent tring to find a game that isn't going to cheat you or lag the game to ruin it for you. Even with all the updates bungie put out there are still people finding ways to standbye. And the only reason why you owned was most likely 1 your connection or 2 you where host and don't deny it. Keep adding to the board I want people to act now! Thank you.

If anything were to happen to the ranks then they should be made hidden so that all you get by boosting your level is harder opponents and nothing to show for it.

However that should not be necessary, for the 360 has yet to be hacked (with the exception of playing Copied disks)

  • 05.27.2006 5:51 AM PDT

while i agree that the rank system is the main reason people mod and cheat i still think its a good idea its something to obtain a thing to achieve. i know the medals your suggesting are pretty much the same thing i just cant help thinking it wouldnt work for halo. i think the competition in ganing ranks is partyly what makes halo 2 so good and long lived peoples levels are constantly fluctuating its a challenge to maintain one.

perhaps a combination of matchmaking rank maybe only for certain matchmaking types like the current system and a medal ranking system for others would work.

actually something i jst thought of was what if ranks degraded over time if you didnt play a playlist. It would solve a few problems while possibly creating more itd have to be carefullt done. de rankers would de rank over time any way, cheaters would have to do it more often to obtain a high rank

(a problem maybe, but a few points - cheating may not be possible on the new game, also better tools to detect them may be incorporated and if they have to do it more often to maintain a rank then theyll be easier to catch)

Ok I know how to gain host. But if you read the message you'd understand the topic.
That topic is the rankings need to be replaced with something more effiecieint something that promotes teamwork rather than individual ranking. But since you've decided to target me personally thats fine and your empty quotes really arent that effect. If you were ever lagit at all you'd use your own words rather than those of another.

I have the mind of a ten year old in a sixteen year old body.... I'm a supermodel!!!

If I remember correctly bungie said that the unranked playlists are actually ranked and they just hide the ranks. Couldn't they just hide all the ranks? Then people wouldn't cheat to get a level 50 or whatever.

AH HA! You have to realize it is not a complaint. this is for ideas for halo 3. If you properly read what I wrote anuthika you'd realzie that this board is for those to add different ideas for ranking and possibly what they don't like. I simply gave reason and cause for why I beleive the current rank system should not be placed in Halo 3. Now if you like the way people, cheat, the 7 year old kids who got a modded map or the laging rediculous people, go play halo 2 and step off the board. this is an ideas for Halo 3 not a lets argue about how great halo2's ranking is.

oh rite sorry jst got what he was saying lol.

your welcome i do try to make sense as much as possible though sometimes the madness takes me.

the ranks in team training etc are hidden ones but that doesnt stop people cheatin. ive been bridged and modded in training no joke - some people are just weird.

About a week ago I made the mistake of going into Team Slayer as a 33. I hadn't played any games beside a couple of training games in about three months. That didn't even matter. I got matched up with a 37, two 35s, and a 33 on the other team, and a 28, 29, and 31 on my team. That didn't matter either, we got stanbyed - BY THE SAME PEOPLE twice in a row, then got bridged.

However on the other hand I would hate to see the effecient rank system gone. I agree with BF2's medal system, however it should be added on to Halo 2's rank system rather than either or. Personally, I would not even bother to spend hours on a game with no ranks... I'm just like that. I like to think I accomplished something with the hours I've wasted on videogames.

Bungie's current software is under par for getting the job done but buttom line is in a year or two on the Xbox 360 Bungie is probably going to have better ways to track down cheaters.

As well, they know glitches in Halo 2 and how they happened, so they won't do that. We can expect no superbounces. Also, we'll have at least 5 months of no cheaters as we'll all be playing on disc maps, and there is still no modded dashboard for the 360 so there is no way to mod if new maps pi[do[/i] come out, but we can't expect that to hold...

As for bridging and standbying, Microsoft and Bungie alike have been studying this to some extent and now know more about it, the more you know the more you can prevent.

Unless some new type of exploitation comes out for Halo 2 that is unstoppable, I could see the rank + additional rank or other system in Halo 3 for the Xbox 360.

98% of teenagers drink or have done drugs. Put this in your profile if you like bagels.

It will be on the XBOX 360 so there will be no more AR saves. And I'm sure that Bungie will make their tools to catch cheaters alot better for Halo 3.

I'm pretty sure Team Training, Rumble Training are definitely unranked, not hidden, unranked. Team Snipers had hidden ranks, they were later revealed.

Everyone is a little strange but these cheaters are just ruining things. There almost like young criminals. They know they shouldnt do what they do and that it can get them in alotta trouble but they do it anyways. and ya know someone else was right to, if they don't show the ranks and they eliminate the numbers then they'll be less of it because they'll be nothing to earn just a hard game that is not on par with there level.

Snipers was always going to end up ranked tohugh...only hidden during it's test phase ^_^

It's to good a mood to be unranked...and they saw it pretty quick.

I want to see the ranks in Halo 3

The ranks are what's kept me interested in the game, otherwise i wouldn't be trying to accomplish a 40, I would play until I got bored of it which was in September 2005, but I've continued playing until a few months ago almost religiously because of the ranks and the competitive environment.

In training, half the time two guys quit on one team, whether it's my team or the other team it sucks and ruins the game, and you know this happens way more often in unranked games than a ranked playlist.

The game is lost. IF people still play it, they are true nerds with no lives. I haven't played it seriously for 3 months, I just went on the other day to see if it was any better, it wasn't, cussing every other second and the last game I played, I was teamkilled so the guy could get the turret in the hog. Then, I asked if he liked negative numbers, then proceeded to commit suide the rest of the match. The game is lost, it can't and never will be fixed. Hopefully bungie will figure halo 3 out right, like Halo: CE.

Ok don't get me wrong. Acheiving a rank is one thing but because its a number and the numbers have significance and they are also linked to different avatars that show up depending on the number they are also forms of abuse. In all honesty some of you proposed that there should be a medals/ranking system and thats a great idea and I'm all for it but this isn't about what i want this is about what everyone wants.
Are there any other systems we could use for the new halo or are the ones we discussing the best ones available? Idk what i think is that a ranking system that doesnt lead to abuse would go along way for this game.

I like the rankes, because it gives me somthing to work for. I wouldn't be surprised if traing was ranked a bit, because the teams are usually pretty even.

If you like halo 2's ranking system ok then you have nothing to add here. If you have something to add or take away from it that could possibley be used to make halo 3's rank system better then this is the place for you. This is not a "let me say how much i love the ranking system in halo 2" discussion.
