Subject: Anyone else here actually afraid of making threads sometimes?

Yes, but when I make a thread, it usually means something is broken. :)
But it also usually means we can blame Acky or Stosh. So 'sall good.

Personally I give the search bar a quick roll and then try to have unique content when creating threads.

As for my replies I just go with my personal philosophies and the mods may do what they may.

Just don't try to be an ass and you'll be fine, you know like a "normal person".

I was kind of wondering that too.. But I know one thing I never want to see a thread made by hdubya..

When I grow up I want to be bitter and spiteful.

"i liked the reality where everything was on fire better"

I make threads with the intention of being banned.

  • 03.22.2012 7:36 PM PDT

Yeah I know what you mean. I avoid making threads that come anywhere close to borderline or controversial. Taking it one step further I am sometimes afraid to respond to controversial threads because i was once banned for my one response to a 7 page thread that ended up getting locked because a certain mod felt my post didn't contribute to the discussion and was therefore an attempt to derail it.

Kinda sucks because more thought provoking and controversial threads might add a spark to this place.

I ain't never scared.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I side with InsaneAssassin on this one. I have no problems making threads, I just have...high standards. There are too many threads made on a daily basis that can be otherwise answered through Google, Halopedia, a search through this site, or simply not made because they are pointless and lame.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

Active 9/1/11, Heroic 12/25/12

I'm apprehensive when I make new threads. A rule that I always stuck by is this, if you have even a little doubt that the thread or post might deserve a warning then don't post it.

Yes Costco. I need a 50lb bag...I mean sack of sugar.

Well, I've only been warned on this site twice. First time was for making a thread in the Reach Forum for rendering videos (I bought render minutes and rendered the videos for people who posted). At the time, Foman explained that what I was doing was nice, but it didn't add conversation and should be done in a private group (which did make sense). My thread only got to about 5 pages before I was locked.

Later, around the same time that week, someone else did the same thing, but his got to around 300 posts? I don't really remember anymore, but I was upset because I felt it to be a double standard and I PMed Foman about 5? times. Finally, he did lock it and told me to be careful about how I went about reporting people and that he would let me off easy that time. Also that moderators can't see everything all the time.

What I'm trying to say is that if I think a topic can somehow break rules now, I just reference the Forum Rules and double and triple check before I make a thread.

Basically OP, not all mods do everything the same, and the mod that warned/banned you doesn't see everything. So chin up man. You'll get the hang of it eventually.

postnote: I just wrote a whole lot of nothing. True nothing, but nothing. Geez, I need to go to sleep...

edit: still love you Foman

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

I very rarely make threads unless I really have something to say. It seems like a natural progression.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I honestly don't see anything wrong with being "afraid" when creating a thread. I dare say we're all supposed to question ourselves as to whether or not the thread we're making is worthy of discussion, and whether or not it violates a rule. Honestly, if everyone did that, this site would be like a trillion percent less stupid.

Also, since you've been here awhile, you might remember when bannings were considered warnings. Frankly, I don't even understand why anyone would complain about a warning. Its not a ban, so how does it really negatively effect you? A potential correction in response to a violation, and maybe a month or so where your title is altered. Its not like a warning will keep you from gaining a positive trust rating forever.

Though, you do have a point on the consistency issue. However, I don't know how to correct that aside from making all the mods behave the same, which really would mean just canning all of us and hiring people to do the same exact job. I suspect that hired mods would be a lot less interesting and lenient in general than the current volunteer crop.

I'm trying to become an '04, but it's not working too well."

Should i post this reply? What if Evilcam thinks it doesn't contribute to the discussion? But does it really hold any value in the long run? What if people make fun of me for it... What if it's considered off topic or spam? I don't know if i should post this anymore. There really was no point to posting it in the first place.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.
~M.D~

I'm pretty paranoid about the threads I make. Not my posts though. I got them down pretty good. haven't been banned from crappy posting in a long long time.

Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

I am afraid that anything I post will get me banned. Then I look at some of the stuff other members post and get away with.

  • 03.22.2012 10:40 PM PDT

I rarely make Threads, usually only to ask a question I can't find answered in another Thread.

  • 03.23.2012 10:15 AM PDT

"You get what you put into it."

When Legendary is too mainstream, you have Heroic. When you're the leader of the church of MLGeezus, have Epic in your username, and can't write 'About Me's' to save your life, what do you get?

This guy. And now, an side note: Most things I post contain lethal doses of sarcasm, so be warned, and try not to take me seriously.

Finally, a message to Bungie trolls everywhere.

Some of my threads got locked quite a while back, and its the reason I don't make any nowadays.

Posted by: Garrux
After a recent warning, I've basically become afraid of making threads anymore. Seems like no matter how many times I read the rules I'll still receive a lock instantly after creating a thread at some point. Then 10 minutes later I'll see someone do nearly the same thing and completely get away with it. It's just frustrating. Seems like some mods interpret rules differently or the rules are just misleading here and there.

This is too true, even if I didn't make the thread. I see it all the time on the Flood.

Rarity FTW

Posted by: Garrux
Do you ever feel this way?

Constantly, because I know Foman locks/warns/bans for even the smallest infractions. It's pretty much for that reason that I rarely make threads in the Flood.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

I'm not afraid of posting topics because I don't post things that are so borderline that I have to wonder if they are against the rules.

I feel like it's pretty obvious what is and isn't acceptable.

Creating a thread at Neogaf is the most frightening thing a human can experience. You guys are MUCH nicer/forgiving here.
