Subject: Anyone else here actually afraid of making threads sometimes?

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

In regards to making threads I agree with evilcam here. I think people should be more afraid that their content won't be good. Though why you are afraid of getting banned or warned I am not sure. This might sound a bit odd, but the rules here are very straightforward, but at the same time they allow us (the mods) to make judgement calls on the content posted.

In regards to consistency that is mostly only a problem with a few types of topics, and that is political/religious threads and threads that are inappropriate (NSFW). In these types of topics there is no clear definition in the rules as to when a tread gets political/religious, or when a thread becomes too inappropriate.

Then it is up to moderator discretion. At this point in time, I feel mods are being more lenient than times in the past. I echo your point about worrying about content, not "will I or will I not get banned/warned."

Blackness Confirmed. You've got soul.

The Ultimate Opinion.

I usually only make threads when I have something that I actually find to be worthwhile and pretty "safe". However, I do find myself being very apprehensive to respond to certain threads in the flood.

This. I only reply to safe threads and never even make my own.

Positive vibes.

Realistically, getting banned is within the realms of possibility, therefore it is somewhat of a contributing factor when I go to make a thread. However, I can't say that I do not make a thread solely because I am apprehensive toward the idea of getting forced out of these forums by a quick wave of a Forum Ninja's ban-inducing wand.

Truthfully, I think the fundamental reasoning behind my heedfulness is that I have a third-rate judgement about these kind of things. Many of times, I have been banned for simply posting a thread in the wrong forum.

I'll draw my post to a close by saying that you should worry so much about whether or not you will get banned. Simply take the time to thoroughly read over the rules before you post and you will probably find yourself getting warned and/or banned less and less often.

;)

I don't make thread in the public forums that often. But when I do, it usually gages towards discussion of a topic and not just a one liner response. Those are the threads that should just be PM's.

80% of the threads posted on this site can most likely be answered with google, bungiepedia, bing etc.

Am I afraid of making a thread? No. i just like to provide lots of research and thought into my threads - it goes through a few "drafts" before it's posted. Although, this isn't the case for my private groups ;)

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

Posted by: Qbix89I dont think afraid is the right word to use in this context. People should always be questing whether or not what they have to post is, well, important enough to post (e.g. exercising critical thought, questioning themselves and their motives) but having users who are afraid of posting shouldn't be something that's desired

Call me crazy be a community which fosters a fear of participation isn't one that's going to last very long. Generally, fear is derived from a lack of understanding (usually willful ignorance); it's really no different here. People fear posting because they either don't read the rules or don't understand how they are enforced (or because of biased / inconsistent moderating but I don't know enough to comment on that). If that's the case should they be afraid to post? Yeah, of course, but that doesn't mean that's an ideal end to strive for.

However, I don't know how to correct that aside from making all the mods behave the same.

Considering we're all just someone's alt, i doubt it'd be that hard.

I don't see why you're afraid to post a thread - it ain't that hard:

Bungie Community related stuff goes here, Crap goes in the Flood, and anything Halo-gaming related goes in the game forums.

Hahahaha. If you look at my recent history, you will understand my laughter at this statement.

Also: my content is always filled with copious amounts of win.

I very rarely make threads unless I really have something to say. It seems like a natural progression.

Like when you made the thread about why the spiker will be in halo reach? We gonna see one of those about Halo 4?

The tide is turning, brothers! Let us take our kingdom back!

I rarely make threads because I never know what to talk about.

Whoo.

I'm not afraid, I simply have nothing to say most of the time. I've probably made just over ten threads on the mains during my stay here and I've been here for a few years.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

What we need to do is find a process to determine which Bungie.net moderator is the best one, then clone him/her 100 times and have 100 of the same mod. Perfect consistency!

Everybody wins!
