Do you find yourself attracted to threads because of the person who posted it, regardless of whether the topic actually interests you or not?

If someone has a good threadigree (i.e. they are known for making good/entertaining/terrible) threads, does this alone make you click on and want to post in their thread?

I ask this because I see the same bunch of users posting (imo) boring (often repeat) threads, but they seem to get a bunch of replies.

Like SonicJohn, I'm semi-famous (arguably fully-famous) so I don't doubt that I will get a fair amount of replies to this thread. You're all a part of the game and you can't escape it.

Does anyone even read these?

As soon as I saw Skibur post a thread I came.

Open to interpretation.

I post in threads because of the subject name. I will look and see who posted it but i will still look at the thread no matter who posts it....

  • 03.22.2012 6:31 AM PDT

Yes.

There are definitely occasions where I will check out topics, or specific responses, based solely on the person who posted them.

PS - I like the term threadigree... Very clever.

Like B3 said, I usually check out other responses and even see if there was another thread created on it. Chances are they are more discussion based and not a question/answer one liner thread.

Also, I only vote in polls made by Top Gun, for obvious reasons.

  • 03.22.2012 6:38 AM PDT

I do look at a thread's author, but it has little influence over whether I read the thread or not.

Positive vibes.

Very rarely do I open a thread because I recognize the person who made it.

As soon as I see Top Gun post something in The Flood, I know I'm in for an intellectual treat.

Other than that I don't care who posts it.

Unless of course it's Recon. Then I avoid it. Too high of a reading level is required for his posts.

Sorry. I don't date threads. :p Kidding!

Ummm. If I know the author of that thread I may favor it a little more than others. But it also has to do with title and how much it interests me. So, I guess it doesn't really matter to me that much.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

I'm more inclined to open threads from people that have a good "threadigree." Which, of course, usually means I know who they are and I'm confident that they have something interesting to say.

Why are you reading my signature? Who actually opens these things and reads them!

And as always, SEND ME A PM. Please. Or really bad things will happen to you.

I read everything. But I came here mostly to see how many blue hats would be around.

@spaboolly

I do the inverse. There are some people whose threads I stay away from because I know they're not exactly known for... quality discussions.

I look for DeeJ's post in here just because it's always important but other than that I just tend to respond to ones with an interesting topic.

Would you like this script I wrote that gives you a notification every time he exhales? It's quite thrilling.

Absolutely. I stay away from reading a certain user's threads and even go as far as steering clear of any posts s/he makes by skimming over them.

As a matter of fact, I only opened this thread because you made it and most of the time I enjoy reading what you have to say.

No.

I just jump in threads that interest me, threads of interest.

GGGGGGggggggggggggGGGG

No, I rarely even look at who created the thread.

Yo man I totally see what you're saying. Like, when I make a thread and stuff, I check it more than the other threads around. This is probably because I am the most famous person from my own perspective.

Wow this really got me thinking. Thanks Skybird!

The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

Posted by: SkiburI probably wouldn't have opened this thread if it was posted by someone I didn't recognize (I mean "threadigree"...really?).
