Ok, I know some people have pointed this out it various threads, but that doesn’t seem to stop people from posting new theories with misconceptions.

First, A.I.s don’t “die” after 7 years. They USUALLY go rampant from over thinking, and being bigger then the computer system can support. If you get an A.I. to do nothing for 100 years, you would have a very board, but not rampant A.I.

Secondly many people say not to look at the books “because bungie can not add characters from the books” Tartarus was introduced in the last pages of the book, First Strike.

Smart AIs do die after 7 years. That has been stated several times in the books. The only time we hear about AIs becoming Rampant after years is in Ilovebees, but that is not canon. If we were to apply the Marathon defintion of Rampancy(Which is the only one we have) to AI's in the Halo universe then All smart AIs would be rampant.

AI's do die, from not being able to hold or use so much info. They can't perform the functions they need to keep going.

I am...whimsical today.

(dammit I do this all the time!)
Sorry, but I just deleted my repy :( I'll summarise

I think you are confusing 'Rampancy', and 'Thinking to death'
Rampancy is when an A.I grows and decided to do things under it's own steam. It can choose to ignore all outside commands etc.
'TtD' is when a 'Smart' A.I begins to think and process to the extent that its own sustanment is second place. They stop caring about outside influences, even their own maintenance and survival in a system.

He's right. Smart AIs have no choice but to think themselves to death after 7 years. Other "dumb" AIs are not as varied as a smart AI is, and therefor can last longer.

The books make a comparison about what rampancy is. It's like if a human were to think so much that it took over his subconcious actions/signals telling his body to breathe, his heart to beat. Essentially, they think to the point that nothing else works, and corrupt themselves in a matter of speaking. They have no lungs nor do they have hearts, but they have primary coding.
