The purpose of this thread is to collect and display on this forum most, if not all, of the bits of spooky, creepy and somewhat scary things that appear in Halo 2. This thread will be geared towards Multiplayer, as spooky Campaign levels are a specific towards the flood. Nevertheless tidbits in Campaign are allowed, however if you are submitting them, make sure they meet the standards set below.
-Ghosts of Halo-
'Ghosts' are sliding people that appear in Multiplayer maps and will scare the hell out of you. No, they're aren't forum posters that haunt the Halo 2 forum at the dead of night. There are many theories surrounding the creation of ghosts. The most widespread is that ghosts are people that lag out, but are still actually in the game. Just a little messed up... But enough with talk, let's get some footage up!
The Ghost of Lockout. From my knowledge, this is the first ghost to appear. Or at least be filmed. Rumors supposedly spread like wildfire about XBL administrators and Bungie employees using testing AI and all sorts of stuff.
The Ghost of Burial Mounds. Just a random video I looked up. As far as I know it is nothing of importance in ghost history.
The Ghost of Midship. If you thought that last video has quality problems, brace yourself. This video is simply showing another random ghost on another map.
The Ghost of Backwash. Once again another random ghost. The thing about this is that the game was obviously going on a long time before the ghost appeared. And finally it isn't Slayer. Nothing mind blowing, just different compared to other videos.
The Ghost of Turf. This video is very unique as it is the first and only video to capture footage of not one, but two ghosts at once. Also, it seems as though the people in the beginning were doing something else, as the footage was shoot by a popular clan that made miniature skits in Halo 2.
-The mystery of Ivory Tower-
I could link low quality videos of Ghosts all day, so I decided to move on. The mystery of Ivory Tower is something anyone can investigate. But what is it? At the back of the deserted park is an elevator and off little importance, a small metal door that acts as aesthetic scenery. But upon standing at the door for large amounts of time at once, strange beating sounds occur form behind the door. I'm going to leave the following video to explain further, and better.
The mystery of Ivory Tower. As you can see, there is a somewhat bigger foundation behind this than what first meets the eye. Upon the end I noticed the players were looking at what was behind the metal door. Which was...nothing. I delved deeper into this and actually look on the map Reflection in Halo: Reach and did the samething as shown in the video.
I didn't get any results. And I even placed a teleporter to lead behind the door. And there was actually another room. But I believe this room was just from the campaign import as there was nothing there. Perhaps this will be solved in Halo 4?
-Map Specifics: Burial Grounds-
Shooting stars appear on Burial ground, from what I seen, every 15 to 25 seconds. Not so surprisingly, there were no videos specifically showing the shooting star, but during the intro of HMV Hell 2 you can clearly see the shooting star.
Gurgling sounds of what sounds to be the flood can be heard every few seconds in random spots on the map. No footage is up yet, but I'll most likely update the OP with a video of my own. There is also the creaking sounds of falling debris too.
-Are you finding Ling Lings' head?-
Full video by Grumpy.
On Zanzibar there are two signs near the coast warning of sharks (which in itself is an easter egg). However, if you change the date on your Xbox to 7/7/whatever, you can find a sign replacing the others asking if you have seen Ling Lings' head. Ling Ling* is apparently a dog.
There is also a sign saying "Baby shark petting" with a baby riding a shark and giggling. This is an easter egg, but still creeps me out. It can be seen if you change the dates time to 1/1/whatever.
But we're not done yet, there is also a sign that appears 10/31/whatever that shows the splatter symbol and says "Carnage Zone" below.
*Ling Ling is a dog in Bungie mythology that lost its own head. The head is said to be stored on the refrigerator of Bungie. There is an avatar available to all if you are strangely attracted to Ling Ling.
-Tally Marks on Sanctuary-
Thanks again to Grumpy1 and his easter egg video. I didn't even know about this! Apparently there are tally marks on sanctuary. Maybe others don't find this creepy. But is that a Sanctuary or a prison?
-Map Specifics: Backwash-
A gargoyle watches over you as you slay your opponents. Here is a picture and text tutorial. There are also flood gurgles on this level just as Burial Mounds does. the best place on the map to hear these are the bases near the back. But in addition to these you can hear telephone ringing too. But all of these are just icing on the Backwash cake, which is composed of spooky fog and swampy marshes.
-Screams of the scared-
On the map Terminal you can hear screams coming from the train. The screams aren't heard everytime the train passes, only every once in a while. And that's an extreme understatement. As when I played earlier this year it took almost 40 minutes for the screams to be heard. Fun fact:There was also going to be flames on the train but this was cut.
UPDATE: I have found the dialogue file of the screaming passengers! Here it is.
-The gate of Delta Halo-
The gate is something that was brought up upon searching information about trigates, as suggested by Agent Windex. From what I have gathered, the gate is reached by going into Delta Halo, grenade jumping to the other side of the temple (as if you're in Regret) and there would be a gate switch near the extendable bridge. For more information you can refer to this video. That's all I have on it for now other than some rumors concerning, so for the sake of this thread I'll post some of the more popular rumors.
One of the rumors is that it deactivates the gate on Headlong. I think if it did that, then this would be more popular. Another one is that it opens a portal (don't look at me) outside the map. I think it's just the button used in the gondola on Regret. Nothing more.
-Trigates-
Trigates are sort of triangular patches that appear outside, and inside, maps. These can be found in Multiplayer maps, but are more commonly found in Campaign mode. Surprisingly people haven't made too many theories concerning these alien things. Their purpose is rather unknown, though some people say they are actually gates while others say they point out skulls. But at a logical standpoint these are just glitches on the map due to overlapping geography. There is just one outside Cairo Station, only one again outside Delta Halo, one outside of the MP map Terminal, and a few inside and outside Outskirts. And also one in Metropolis. More info on Trigates can be found here.
-Evil Box-
This was a hard entry to write because the previous footage is no longer around, and because this is a seemingly one-in-a-kind occasion. So this entry shall be written as the original footage appeared to show.
A normal skirmish in the second hangar of the Cairo Station, and with what appeared to be only one remaining covy alive, an Elite minor. Having seen the demon slaughter his entire squad, he took cover behind a box to escape death. But this wasn't a normal box, though this particular Elite did not know. And the box instantly killed him. As the Chief jumped to fire at the covy, he noticed the Elite fall over with a cry of pain. Nobody really knows what happened that day.
