I am hoping for something along the lines of Uncharted meets the Elder Scrolls but I highly doubt Bungie would steer away from bland Sci Fi shooters into a more creative realm.

The name of this game should be GNOP 2 and it should be a steampunk action/adventure rpg starring pimps.

I like the way you think. :D

But I'm pretty sure Bungie specifically wants to make something that isn't Halo.

I'm personally hoping for an Action Adventure game.
FPS's are just too damn limited in my opinion, and the market is flooded with them.

The most popular console games today are clearly first-person games, shooters, slashers, or otherwise. I love action/adventure like the other guy, but feel it will really take something special to break new ground there.

Where does the multiplayer come in?

Just make a deep and interesting combat system and the multiplayer will follow naturally. See Dark Souls.

I mean, heck, it could even be a third person shooter, just don't make it first person, it limits the gameplay dramatically. Just make it dynamic and interesting.

It doesn't have to be medieval per-say but it'd be nice to see a Bungie game return to a time when there wasn't all this technology; to create an interesting and engaging experience without the added benefits of digital HUD via a visor or grenades or space ships etc.

I really hope they continue with this "futuristic world" trend. If not, I would like an immersive gritty other-world experience.
I don't know about that.

I feel like putting things in the future is too, well, easy.

There's too many toys to play with and too many gadgets to use as disguised Deus Ex Machina (a ship that can shoot a huge laser beam that swiftly wipes out the entire city owned by group B that was at war with group A, for example).

Now, don't get me wrong. I want Bungie to make an amazing game just as much as the rest of us do. But if they were able to do it in a new and innovative way that was widely looked upon as something that was difficult to do and yet was perfectly executed (for example, a classical era RPG).

I'd rather give them an A+ for an innovative game that nobody saw coming and that did every thing right, than an A- for yet another space-shooter.

Oops, my bad. Wouldn't a genre-defying game also be genre-defining, though? If it doesn't belong to any existant genre, wouldn't that mean that mean it would also be genre-defining?

Hm...

I hope its a FPS/RPG mix, with free roam capabilities and other RPG elements, but in 1st person. It would also be cool if they did some kind of coop similar to Borderlands, but not an MMO.

I don't see how the First Person point of view could be executed in a fighting game without it being clunky and disorienting.

It's definitely a possibility. Bungie has the the brain power, and industry experience now to craft a game which defines a new genre. I think genre classifications exist within technological boundaries. Unless we see some really rapid advances in the platform they are designing for I doubt that we'll get much we "haven't seen." Lines of comparison are fairly easy to draw.

Bungie is always surprising me though - I'm optimistic.

Yet there still remains what I would presume to be a mutual community agreement regarding wanting Bungie to stick to their roots.

The voting seems to be trending toward FPS mash-ups.

By innovative do you mean story-plot-world? Interface? Economy? Incentive/Investment?

Please clarify.
