Im not sure if this has been posted before or not but if so im sorry. I think that the artifact on earth may be a portal to the ark. i think that because the shape of the beam like thing coming out of it looks that way. What do you think.

it could be...but why wouldnt they just go to the actual planet and get to it then?

Why go to Earth and fight to the portal when they can just fly to the planet that REALLY has the ark

Could be. I doubt Bungie would have made it that easy for us fans to figure out it was at Earth. There's probably some twist in it, like your portal idea.

And maybe the Ark isn't on that galaxy. Maybe it was a teleporter that brings you somewhere safe, somewhere where the blast radius of the Halo's can't hit you, say, another galaxy? But I don't know. I'm just gonna stick with the Ark being on Earth untill Halo 3 comes out.

Or maybe a space station?

because what if the ark was the moon? our moon? what if that artifact is designed to release teh ark from its cocoon of the moon and activate it? if so than the covenant would ahve to come to earth anyway.

Its actually just the biggest subwoofer you've ever seen (complete with glowing neon lights). Though, due to its size and complexity, you may have confused it with something more significant.

It's an interesting idea, and I'm inclined to believe you.

Why not go to the planet with the Ark on it?

Because the Ark may not be on a planet. What if the Ark was in Slipspace? It would make sense, the most secure place to put it would be in a Slipstream, one that can only be accessed through the teleporter on Earth. That way even if the entire universe was overrun with Flood, the Ark would still be clean and would be able to fire.
