After the 31st the Halo emblems could be considered "custom avatars".

user1 - Where'd you get that avatar?
user2 - Oh, you had to play Halo to get this.

How do we know that custom emblems aren't going to be in their next game and paired for forum use?

ex: There were some Marathon symbols in Halo games as emblems. What's to stop them from putting "Bungie" "Halo" and "marathon" symbols in their next game? (Destiny?)

A few important points.
Posted by: Marathon
Even if they did upload something bad:

1st offense: Get a ban and removal of the image.
2nd offense: Get a bigger ban and the privilege is permanently removed for that user.

It's really not that difficult.
So you're saying "it's OK for pictures of giant testicles and other pelvic-region-items to be all over Bnet because you can temporarily ban the people after!"

That's ridiculous.

Second, Achronos has already stated that load times would skyrocket if Bnet had to load so many different pictures from so many different sources. 'Coup' is a prime example of this, though to a far FAR lesser extent.

Thirdly, it would be annoying.

Dead Mans Hand-Always Loaded.

I WAS SOCK

7 years with no bans/warnings.

1 warning after that and 7 more years to wait.

Even then, I still wouldn't be all for the idea.

Nope, not saying that at all. Let people know the consequences. Let them know if they upload a NSFW image they will be banned. No question about that. Since you're a member since 2006, would YOU upload an inappropriate image and risk being banned for the lulz?

If everyone had custom avatars, sure load times would skyrocket. But not everyone would. Perhaps only 500 - 600 about of 10 million accounts. That's nothing.

I'm sure there will be similar features. All I'm saying is that there might be a large change in the pallet of emblems. Some emblems might return, but as we've seen in the Halo franchise, some will be lost.

My hunch is that this time around there will be many more new emblems then returning. It is a new IP.

Would I? No. But you must not go on the public forums that much if you think there aren't plenty of people with older accounts that wouldn't find it worth it. In addition, you're asking the webteam to take the time to do this. Achronos already makes the moderators wait for certain time periods because it's a hassle when he's working on other stuff. That's like... what, 10 people? And now you want to add hundreds to that? Right before/after an enormous site update? No way.

Perhaps only 500 - 600 about of 10 million accounts. That's nothing. That's quite a bit actually if you look at the example of 'coup,' no?

so. much. abuse. would. occur.

Although true, there could possibly be a filter for customs. Of course, my theory obviously has many flaws...

I'm not asking the webteam to do anything. They don't have to go through and approve every single image. Just have the option unlocked once users meet the criteria. If they were to upload NSFW image, they will be banned.

Coup is irrelevant since the userbase of that is much younger accounts. Those users wouldn't be included in doing this, so it's pointless to look at them.

We're all people, guys. So with people given a privilege like their very own avatar (just like the privilege of having our very own private groups to communicate) there are those few kids bound to screw it up, and we're just going to have to get over it and let the moderators and admins do what they would.
So the mods would ban the users who screw around.

We shouldn't have certain abilities because a few people would fuck it up? What perfect logic you have. For one, I believe we shouldn't be allowed to post because there's quite a few people out there that break the rules.

Anyway, OP, I'll repeat what other people said. Your best bet is to get CoupV. Group link Just click join, go to the forums, FAQ's and help threads on your right.

But I understand how you misinterpreted my post. Let me re-phrase:

If we were given our own custom avatars, we would need to simply get over the fact that we're bound to see a few inappropriate images here and there, just like we get over all of the spam we get on the forums (which are a privilege)

I think that 7 years, no more than one ban, and no more than one warning. Also, you have to submit your avatar to the webteam just like the Ninjas do.

A warning, and you can keep it. That would be equivalent to a ninja leaving their position, but getting to keep their avatar (e.g. Skibur). A ban, and you would lose it until you regained your mythic status.

These are avatars, people. Not moderation abilities. And, like I said, having them being submitted to the Web Team (or just DeeJ) for approval would weed out 99.99% of inappropriate avatars (the .01% being a .GIF that has an extremely long animation time that DeeJ or the Web Team just happened to miss).

All this "It's going to get abused." nonsense is baseless and makes no sense.

Seeing as not even Ninjas can change their avatars as freely as they want (at least it used to be that way), it's probably not within the sites capability at the moment.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

Do you understand the amount of time it would take for the webteam to sort every submitted avatar?

  • 03.24.2012 4:20 PM PDT

1) inequality uproar
2) people asking for one they deserve
3) abuse of image rights
4) members don't deserve it for simply "being here earlier"
5) stress on the site
6) it's such a pointless thing anyway

So many reasons not to, sometimes it's hard to understand why they fly straight over people's heads.

How many people have been on the site 7 years with less than two warnings and less than two bans?

People who don't want to see genitals everywhere don't have to.

Remove avatars. Remove titles. Remove groups. Remove signatures. Instead of names, we should all be known by our profile ID number. Nothing else.

We will be pure forum users once again.
