i read a post about the humans being forerunners... And im sure youve all heard all about that... enough to make you gag. But this post threw words at me that made me think of something else. And it has to do with the universe and time repeating itself

343GS: Last time, you asked me, if it was my choice, would I do it? Having considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed.

The AI's words are refering to detonating the halos to kill off all life. He also says seconds before that, that the halos would deactivate after a certain amount of time (2 million light years?) He also asks the Chief why he would hesitate doing something that he has allready done.

Those words are chilling if you understand it's meaning. That means that after the halos deactivate, time repeats itself, and sooner or later the chief will do everything hes done again. Its as if time was a ring, has no begining, no end, and you will eventually hit the same spot again, and again.

Other words that are chilling is cortanas word in the trailer. "I know you. Your past, your future."

Many believe that those words are gravemind and cortana's and if this is true, gravemind might perhaps be something that isnt affected by the halos. And can live through time because he never dies. He must be a flood god of some sort, and he knows the past and future, because he has lived through it... countless amounts of times because times is reoccuring.

I bet the Halo 3 will reveal all we need to know about how time is reoccuring, and i bet the cheifs goal is to change the course of time, and make a new future, breaking the ring of time itself, and in the end, killing the real symbolic halo. Time.

Very interesting. I have thought about this as well. Only one way to find out. When the game comes out.

(note to self: join Apple's team always, as he is a god)

He doesnt say the halos deactivate, he says this halo will Activate the others. I just finished playing 2 betrayals like 5 minutes ago he he. Also he is thinking that the master chief was the forerunner that activated the ring a long time ago. When he says why hesitate on something you've already done its because the chief already got the index not because he has done it in the past.

Makes more sence then alot of the theorys here. Good job,

  • 05.27.2006 7:24 PM PDT

wow, this is by far the greatest theory i have read so far. the idea of life being repeating system makes so much sense out of all the flapdoodle the characters in the game say.

Im glad everyone likes my theory...

What alos got me thinking is how cortana shows how the world ends. If the gravemind is in cortana... than perhaps they are showing the cheif what the gravemind has seen millions of times over.... how else could he see the world end and live?

Bungie does like the "time repeating itself" idea, or the "eternal hero" like in the Marathon games (somebody correct me if i'm wrong). I think it's one of the best theories yet.

Due to recent cutbacks, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off.

I have believed this for a long time but have never been good at explaining well done

I like this theroy, but I doubt it is true. Except I dont like the "Changes time" idea. I would rather have time repeat it's self over and over. Steering free of the "happy" ending.

Good, origanal(I cant spell sue me) , thinking, more than can be said about most people on this fourm.

I agree.
I imagien that we were (forerunners), mabey the forerunners were different types. As in mabey the forerunners were like the covies (collective of elite, profit and human) that were all creations of the true forerunners (god like) who also created the halos (to protect their creations: elite, profit and human) from the flood which mabey they came across from another galaxy... just a theory with no fact to back it up. :)

Twelve Large ²

An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.

Did 343 see the thread about a broken Halo?

Just a little bit of symbolism.

The Halo is a circle, No begining, no end. Maybe it is relevant?

343 is talking about the last reclaimer who activated the halos when he says "you".

In The Flood (the book) 343 passes the comment that the Chief is wearing a level 2 (i htink) combat suit, and should upgrade to a level 12 for killing the flood. The thought occured to me that Human technology is evoloving the same way forerunner tech did.

There aren't any time repeats or overlaps in Halo, besides the few weeks lost between Reach and Halo due to the crystal.

"Your destruction is the will of the gods, and we are their instruments."

This supports the "Clones and Lies" theory. What if the Forerunners were trying to use the Flood to achieve eternal life, like the humans?

Thats interesting, but i dont know how that would work for my theory. according to my theory the halos have been detonated, killing all life and food for the flood... so if time repeated itself, then the flood, humans, covenant, forerunners... would all die over and over again, and then come back to repeat time itself.

  • 05.28.2006 7:26 AM PDT

Twelve Large ²

An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.

Guilty Spark would have also known about his ring being destroyed, and the flood threat being haulted, albeit inelegantly. But he didn't know about that. Time isn't repeating itself.

Change that to "I don't think time is repeating itself."

Here's a wrench to toss into the works, what about the shards of the crystal that the Covanent recovered? Perhaps they have a role to play in this time loop?

Dude, you sound like that bicth-a$$ kid you had to fight in Pokemon before you got to Brock... he's all like "You light years away from fighting Brock"... and then he's all like "Light years measures distance, not time!"

My point is that just cuz the dude made a lil mistake, that doesn't mean he doesn't have a legitimate and plausible theory... he doesnt sound stupid, you just sound like a bicth.

Now go take a time-out for a couple light years.

i was talking to a friend about some of this stuff a while back, and tbh it doesnt sound far fetched when you put all the clues together, the ones you shown, the trailer it self (bungie STATED its only a third way through the halo 3 game where the trailer is showing) the way the Gravemind is talking and also Cortanna saying at the end "This is how the WORLD ends"

If i remember correctly the halos destroyed all life in a certain distance in the GALAXY not the world, so i came up with the conclusion what you see there is actually showing something which happened before or what the future holds hence the i know your future quotation

so it fits into what you have said, the gravemind has seen it many times, and is visualy showing what happened to the master chief? or jsut showing teh viewer when there talking maybe.

problem is this is all rumours and until the game is out we cant be sure, great theory fits with alot of things, but some gaps which i cant think of

but this is bungie and all we can do is wait and see :)

Thank you, kind sir.

And also, to continue the discussion, the fact that Cortana is showing the cheif the way the world ends makes it extremely plausable for the time reoccurance to be true. I just can't wait until Bungie releases Halo 3, so that maybe all our questions will be answered...

Unless they leave the questions blank, and let us decide what the outcome is. I would get so pissed if they left it up to speculation. so very pissed indeed.
