You are quite possibly the first person I've seen on these forums too smart for their own good. Cocky s.o.b.
Granted, the word "forerunner" is a title, a description. But in the context of the game it is describing a specific race of beings. We have no -blam!- clue what their real name was, so we call them by their most distinguishing trait: the Forerunners.
They did create the Halos, they did create the ship that powered High Charity, and they left crap-loads of relics around the universe. Depending on how deep you go into the Halo storyline, you'll realize that the Forerunners ARE all the same species. That's the whole reason the Covenant are the Covenant in the first place.
The Prophets(whatever the name of their race is) discovered Forerunner artifacts, and learned about the "Great Journey" that the Forerunners took (which we now realize is the activation of the Halos). At the time the Prophets discovered all this, they were at war with the Elites (Shangheli). The info on the Forerunners led to the peace between the Prophets and the Elites and the formation of the Covenant. The Covenant's whole purpose is to discover more about the Forerunners (a specific race) and then follow the Forerunners on the "Great Journey". I'm not making this up, go read the books AND watch the DVD with the special edition Halo 2. And stop flaming people's ideas: let them enjoy the game/story whatever way they like best, no matter how wrong it is.
Yes, I agree with everything you said. Did you get some of your info from the Halo 2 Special Edition DVD?, they the Covenant tablets and the war between prophets and elites.
Damnit nevermind, for some reason I skipped over the last few sentences your wrote. My bad.
