Today I just got the Halo 3 wallpaper with the Chief on it, and while staring at the hi-def-to-be goodness, I took notice of something.

If you look at his legs**, they are kinda weird compared to the rest of his armor; I figured it was sand, seeing how his environment is Africa-esque and all. But then I thought to myself why sand is sticking to his metal/alloy armor.
**specifically, his shins and feet

Living on the coast, I know the only way sand sticks to you is when it's wet. But why is his armor wet, especially in a barren place like the trailer presented?

One could always say it's just for effect, to add something to show he's in a desert. But when you look at the trailer, he walks right through a cloud of sand! Why isn't the rest of his armor sandy?

I'm probably (definitely) over-analyzing, but after reading some theories around the forums, even the most minute detail could be worth noting. Think I caught something notable?

too much speculation. lol

I think its rust/ weatherig to the metal...
or he might not being wearing metal at all... it is the future.

but i dont think it matters.

it can't be rust. It's on the black part of his suit, too.

edit: looking into The Fall of Reach, I found proof the older version of his armor was at least metallic.
p248 -- "metallic sheen" and "dents and scratches in the alloy plates".
Last time I checked, plastic doesn't dent all that much, kevlar does scratch but does tear, and ceramic cracks. It's gotta be a metal (as if the word alloy doesn't give it away) At the moment, I won't look into the other books to find proof for Mark VI armor, but I'm sure there isn't a switch.

btw, I wasn't trying to prove you wrong. I'm just supporting my belief he's wearing metal.
