This is addressed specifically to the Bungie staff (Frankie, Sketch, etc.) as well as forum moderators (Shishka, Ninja, etc.)

Good afternoon. In an effort to clear up a minor debate with a friend of mine I am inclined to ask the following: During the "post conference" presentation of the Halo 3 footage that was shown to a select few (publichers, etc.) was Master Chief controllable in any way? I'm aware of the real-time aspects of the footage and of the various camera angles that were used to display the surrounding enviornment but I'm still not quite clear as to whether or not someone was literally controlling a model of Master Chief by way of a 360 controller and the debug kit that was used. If anyone amongst your staff could take a brief moment to answer this question for me I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You for your time and keep up the good work.

The question is whether or not someone physically picked up a controller and managed to move MC around the enviornment. I am aware that the footage was real-time and the ghost camera aspects. What I need to know is if there was an actual displayed model of MC that was used for the presentation.

You don't know that.

The odds are against it, but don't be a party pooper.
