...from the banned word's list?

I realise this will probably be sensitive, but please here me out. Oh and by grown up, I mean the community, not the Bungie team.

Religious beliefs aside, -blam!--blam!-ity is becoming more prominent and accepted in society, whether it is through media campaigns or changes in the law allowing marriage between members of the LGBT community.

With this said, the LGBT community commonly refer themselves as being G-A-Y, or L-E-S-B-I-A-N and accept the name as describing them and not as an insult.

Even on these forums, the term is rarely used any more, not because it is blocked, but rather because we are also changing in attitudes.

So my question is, with these changes, are we able to unblock these word that merely describes a member of our society? Describing someone's ethnicity is not blocked, so why should someone's -blam!-ity be blocked?

In my mind it makes no sense.

In summary
I believe the words to describe any member of the LGBT community should be unblocked by the profanity filter.

However some words should remain blocked, for instance F-A-G-G-O-T.

Now, I would like to here your thoughts on the issue, do you believe it should be unblocked?

I'm not going to include a poll to induce discussion.

P.S I apologise now for bypassing the word filter.

I wish there was an option to turn the filter on and off. A community forum I go to has this option and it is liked by all. The people who don't like profanity have it turned on, the people who don't mind or want it have it turned off.

Achronos has said that the filter came with the website and hasn't been updated since this site was created (2001).

No. Yes. I do not care.

Ideally, I would like to see a forum with no filter but with an educated populous that would simply not resourt to -blam!- profanities all the -blam!- time by -blam!- punctuating every -blam!- sentence with -blam!- profanities.

-blam!- the -blam!- -blam!-s!

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

I think that there should be a trial period. A set amount of time that is open to see if we are adult enough as a group. If it isn't abused, then lift the pan in perpetuity. However, if we are not, then leave that, and every other filtered word in place.

Ad Infinitum

There will always be people who abuse it. Be interesting to see what would happen in the Flood if they took the filter off for a few hours.

There will always be new members, meaning there will always be a new group of 11 year olds that will abuse it.

I honestly don't believe the Flood is as bad as it used to be, there seems to be quite a bit more mature discussion in there now a days. Enough so, as Charlie suggested to maybe have a temporary lift of it.

Our forum rules say "do not bypass the profanity filter." They do not say "do not bypass the profanity filter unless you have a good reason."

Numerous people before you have created this thread and have done so clearly and so that everyone knew what they were talking about. And they did it without bypassing the profanity filter. You have no excuse.
