To which "release date" are you referring. If you think about it, we had screen shots well over a year in advance.

Edit: Before launch, like 1.5 years or more.

halo 2 came out in november '04 not november '05 therefore if they started work on halo 3 after halo 2 they would have 18 months of work not 8
