Subject: How many Spartan III's were in a company? (Gamma for instance)

I'm making a small fan-fic (nothing big) and my Spartan III's number is 492. What company would he be in? Gamma? Would it be after Gamma? If so, what would come next?

Sorry to clog up the Bungie Universe forums, this would really help.

gamma was had 330 members but we don't know how many spartan IVs there are so that might work

  • 03.27.2012 3:03 PM PDT

What about Alpha and Bravo company? Would 492 be in there? He's a Spartan III btw.

Thanks for the help though. I really appreciate it Leaf Dragoon.

  • 03.27.2012 3:18 PM PDT

i think alpha and bravo were only 300 each but i could be wrong

  • 03.27.2012 3:20 PM PDT

So that would be 600 Spartans right? So if he's 492 that would mean he's part of Bravo. Aha! I have my answer! Thanks man!

  • 03.27.2012 3:22 PM PDT

Well alpha had about 500 candidates and they weeded them down to 300 by doing a night parachute drop. So I think Alpha company might be the best.

  • 03.27.2012 3:23 PM PDT

Alpha? Got it. Thanks ThatOneJedi. Props man. +1

  • 03.27.2012 3:24 PM PDT

each company has numbers 1-300 meaning people from different companies have the same numbers but a different letter in front of it

Ah.....that's a downer.....

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

We could assume they were numbered before being accepted into the program, just like the Spartan II's were.

The original Spartan II program was supposed to consist of 150 children that's why John and others got tags up to that number, so the candidates for Alpha and Beta could have been so too.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

Both Alpha and Beta Companies contained 300 Spartan-IIIs. Gamma was slightly larger, with 330 S-IIIs. Having said that, some candidates were turned away from the program, so the service tags may be a bit higher than 300, but not as high so as to go into the 400s, in my opinion. As for Gamma, everyone was accepted into the company, so the service tags only went as high as 330.

Sorry man, but I don't think the number could exist.

Spartan III tags had a letter, then a number from 1 to about 300.
However, I don't think any company went 100 Spartans over.

Also, with the dawn of the Spartan IV program, I doubt they would keep making threes. IV's are cheaper, all they need is a suit of armour.

Sorry.

yeah I forgot about S-IIs but I don't think they would have given the S-III candidates numbers until they were sure that they would become spartans and not just drill instructors for the next company.

btw just checked alpha had 497 trainees and beta had 418 trainees
although unlike S-IIs whether or not trainees got numbers before or after they were selected is not stated

why does everyone think spartan-IVs aren't augmented when no official source has ever stated this. besides they wouldn't even be spartan without augmentations.

Wait a minute, what about Noble 6? His number was B312, which is over 300......and B is Bravo.

B is Beta.

I imagine there were over 300 candidates initially chosen to join the program, and their number stayed throughout the program.

Either that, or there were more than 300 spartan's trained, and only 300 were put in the company, and the rest were put into other task forces, ala Noble Team, etc.

Kat's service number is B320. The actual number of serving S-IIIs within a company may be 300, but the numbers do go above 300.

The companies are Alpha, Beta, Gamma. S-IIIs use the Greek alphabet, not the NATO phoentic, otherwise Gamma (the third company) would have been called Charlie.

Alpha was pretty much killed off in Operation PROMETHEUS (Asteroid K7-49 in 2537) and Beta was wiped out in Operation TORPEDO. (Pegasi Delta in 2545) Gamma was still in training on Onyx when the Sentinels attacked, most of them died there.

If you're looking for a fanfic, I'd use either Alpha or Beta, before the operations that resulted in almost all of them being KIA.

Gamma wasn't in training when Onyx activated. They were all off planet in some operation. Only three Spartan III teams were left planetside for a top honors exercise: Saber, Katana and Gladius. Gladius was found KIA, Saber lost Dante and Holly, leaving Mark, Ash and Olivia. And at least two members of Katana were found in the slipspace pods, with three other unknown individuals, which I suspect to be the missing Beta company recruits.

And from Beta, only Tom and Lucy survived Operation Torpedo. Gamma Company's location is unknown, and their operational status, I imagine, is active. They are currently in canonical limbo, and could appear in future novels or even in the new Halo trilogy. Unless, of course, Glasslands mentions them.

B=Beta..........my bad. *tips hat* many apologies.

Do you think 492 could be possible though?

They just go missing in action.

I think Beta had 300.

What if it's from a different company? It doesn't have to be Beta :D

But seriously guys, thanks for the help.

It's fan fic. You can be as flexible as you want and make up a company with more than 300 spartan's if you want.

It doesn't exactly have to fit in 100% in canon.

  • 03.28.2012 6:08 PM PDT

sorry forgot about kat and six

btw there were 5 members of team katana in the pods and i'm going to assume bornstellar was in one of the other 3 pods because primordium mentions the bornstellar relation on onyx which means he have to have been there and not in the sphere because the engineers said there were no forerunners inside of it, which also leads me to suspect that his 2 friends from the end of cryptum might have been in the other 2 pods and they've all been in stasis since before the halo array was fired didn't have a way to wake themselves up after.

I see.....what comes after Gamma?
